Five-year-old Cameron Middleton lives and breathes the sport of golf, and his dedication just paid off again. He got his second hole-in-one, and delightfully, every moment of it was caught on camera.Middleton appeared to feel confident about the shot moments after he teed off at the hole at Stoneybrook Golf Club. Then, with squeals of excitement, he raced down to the green and peered in the hole, as the camera panned to show his ball in the cup. The smiles and shouts rounded out the story. CHICAGO, Ill. – The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) celebrated its 110th anniversary this month. Just days later, they filed for bankruptcy protection. The move came as the organization was hit with dozens of child sexual abuse lawsuits dating back decades. “The boy scouts have had the problem of pedophiles targeting their troops since the very earliest days,” said attorney Chris Hurley with the Chicago based law firm Hurley McKenna & Mertz. The firm has represented more than a dozen former boy scouts who claim they were the victims of sexual abuse. “The Boy Scouts approach over all those many years was to keep it secret, to suppress the information, not share it with the community and not really addressed the problem,” said Hurley. The problem, however, has been known for decades. Court records revealed that since the 1920s, the BSA compiled “red” lists of adult volunteers identified as potential child molesters. They were known as the “ineligible files” or “perversion files.” One serial pedophile, who was twice convicted in Indiana before preying on hundreds of boy scouts in Illinois, was Thomas Hacker. He was convicted in 1989 and sentenced to 100 years in prison, where he died. Hurley settled 18 cases brought by Hacker’s victims. “I interviewed Thomas Hacker in prison and asked him why he chose the Boy Scouts. And what he told me was. ‘It was just so easy. They really didn't do anything to stop me.’” Two weeks ago, the Boy Scouts of America announced a five-year-partnership with an organization that provides services to male survivors of sexual abuse. The BSA isn’t talking but issued a statement in which president & CEO Roger Mosby wrote: “We sincerely apologize to anyone who was harmed in Scouting. In addition to implementing strong policies to prevent abuse, we are dedicated to supporting victims when and how they need it.” Sweeping new legal changes extending or eliminating the statute of limitations for victims to sue their abusers have been passed in more than a dozen states like California, New York and New Jersey. That’s led to more survivors coming forward and filing suit, but with last week’s bankruptcy filing by the BSA, everything’s been put on hold. In its filing, the organization estimates its assets at between billion and billion. “The bankruptcy is really an attempt by the Boy Scout organization to control the damages and control hopefully how much money they have to pay out and to get a cut off for any more claims,” said Hurley. A portion of those assets will likely go to compensate victims. But anyone who has not filed a claim by a looming deadline could be barred from future settlements. “The bill has come due. And these abuse victims, they've got to pay these people. It's not fair to continue to deny them justice.” 2831

Living in a world where business revolves around technology, cybersecurity has become a more common issue. Studies show the greatest risk for a data breach is employee negligence. “Somewhere between 85 and 95 percent of successful attacks on organizations now stem from phishing,” cybersecurity expert Ross Jordan said. Ross Jordan with High Touch Technologies says phishing is a way for foreign groups or companies to gain private information from a company by targeting the employee usually through email. Scammers have become advanced enough to appear as a person or organization you trust asking for your password or credit card number. “Phishing is something that’s usually sent out by bots. Literally just blasted out to hundreds if not thousands of emails at a time. And they’re hoping for that one na?ve person to follow the link, and when they do, you’re literally opening the doors to the kingdom,” Jordan said. Employees are often tricked because the email contains a reactionary ask telling somebody they need to share personal information right away. “They’re taking advantage of our human nature. And when somebody needs your help, and somebody needs an action from you, you want to respond, you want to do something,” Jordan said. According to Jordan, the best way to prevent these attacks is to train your employees. Commercial General Contractor, Pinkard Construction, is one company leading by example. Technology Manager Eric Schmeer says models that used to be on paper have now become fully digitized using laser scanners, drones and 360 degree cameras. “All of these devices, all this information, it’s all computerized, it’s all digital, it’s all connected to the internet. And so when you’re running these multi-million dollar projects and all that information is digital, it’s really, really important to protect it,” Schmeer said. For that reason, Pinkard Construction takes time to educate its employees on what an attack could look like. “Teach people just the fundamentals about how to analyze an email, and determine whether it looks phishy or not. And what to do when they’re not sure about links and whether they should click them, and how to figure out where they go,” Schmeer said. The company also fosters an environment where employees are encouraged to come forward with questions. “Nobody is ever hesitant to forward an entire technology team here and say ‘Hey is this legitimate? Can I click this link? What’s gonna happen here?’” Knowing you could be just one click away from killing your company, it’s always OK to ask for help. “Just ask. It’s very simple. We’ll be glad to help out,” Jordan said.  2658

ODESSA, Fla. — A couple from Florida that specializes in Christmas art worried many children wouldn't get to visit Santa this year, so they got creative to keep the tradition alive.Larry Hersberger always had a love for the man who makes a list and checks it twice."Christmas has always been special to me since I was a boy. I was raised in the prairies," said Hersberger.Hersberger's wife, Ela Bednarek, always adored a beautifully decorated Evergreen."I grew up in Poland, and in Poland, Christmas is the biggest holiday there is," said Bednarek.Together they are creating an empire of Christmas themed oil paintings."And it all stemmed to my own inner child and how he pictured Santa," said Hersberger. The big guy at the North Pole started to take notice."Next thing you know, I'm being friended by hundreds of Santas on Facebook," said Hersberger. "I realized that all of them had my work somewhere in their homes."When the pandemic began to threaten Santa's busy season, the couple started to worry."Because they make their entire year's income in the last three months of the year, and gone," said Hersberger. Then they started thinking about the kids."We have a 5-year-old and I was like, 'wait a minute, I can't take Juliet to see Santa this year,'" said Bednarek. "I said 'Larry, you're the Santa guy, you got to save Christmas.'"So with the help of their bearded friends, the couple put together a network of 100 professional Santas from five different countries and called it How To Save Christmas. How To Save Christmas "Macy's Santa, Disney's Santa, Mall of America Santa, these are the whos who of Santas," said Hersberger.Families around the world can schedule a Zoom call with the Jolly Old St. Nick of their choice. Every Santa is unique, and every call is different. There are no green screens and disappearing heads. According to Hersberger, every Santa is in a real live set. At the end of the call, the child's photo will be dropped right next to him, like they were actually there in the workshop."We are on a mission to bring joy and hope to those families around the world, not only the children but families," said Bednarek. How To Save Christmas will also be offering 500 free Zoom calls to children in hospitals. They are looking for sponsors to help provide even more.Click here for pricing information and to make your own Zoom call with Santa. This article was written by Robert Boyd for WFTS. 2474

LONDON, England – Prince Harry and his wife Meghan are taking the first steps into their new independent life thousands of miles apart. Meghan has returned to Canada, where the couple spent a six-week Christmas break out of the public eye. Meanwhile, Harry stayed in England as the royal family sought to contain the crisis sparked by the couple's decision effectively to quit as senior royals. A friend of the couple pushed back against accusations they blindsided Queen Elizabeth II with the announcement that they would be stepping back from royal duties. “It’s certainly not true to say the palace were blindsided by this,” said broadcaster Tom Bradby, who filmed revealing interviews with Harry and Meghan while they were in Africa last year, 764
