Caterpillar could eliminate nearly 900 jobs in the US and Central America, the company said on Friday.Job cuts will happen at locations in Texas and Panama as part of a restructuring, a spokeswoman said. Employees were notified earlier this year, she said. The heavy equipment manufacturer also said it is "contemplating the closure" of an engine factory in La Grange, Illinois, which is part of its subsidiary Progress Rail, a supplier of railroad and transit products. The closure, if it happens, would eliminate 600 full-time jobs in engine manufacturing. The company said it might be "transitioning" its rail manufacturing to facilities in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, as well as "outside suppliers." The company said the employees were informed in January.Caterpillar is planning to close its work tools facility in Waco, Texas, by the end of 2018, eliminating 200 job and contractor positions there, the company said. The employees were notified last month. The company plans to move the manufacturing to Wamego, Kansas, and also to "external suppliers."Caterpillar also confirmed that it's closing a facility in Panama, and that 80 jobs will be eliminated. The company said these workers were informed in January. The cost-cutting measures come even as a growing global economy is boosting demand for its heavy-duty equipment. The company reported in January that quarterly sales grew 18%, its first increase since 2012.Sales in North American grew by 46% driven by selling and leasing machinery for home building, infrastructure and for the oil and gas industries. Sales were also boosted by increased spending in China. The company added 3,000 employees last year to meet demand, bringing its total workforce to 98,000. 1735

CALIFORNIA — Thousands of San Diego residents are saving big by "buying nothing."It's just past 9 a.m. on a late November in Bay Ho and lots of pieces of bread, rolls and muffins are ready for taking. Becky Sloan is the first to arrive. The food is set up outside the home of Tomira Baca-Craig, who runs a food co-op that divvies out extra bread donated by bakeries and stores. On this morning, she posted the giveaway on her "Buy Nothing" Facebook group. It's not just bread. Sloan showed reporters with KGTV in San Diego photos of baseballs, crafting items, shoes for her children and home decor, just some of the stuff she's received in the last two years. All of the items were offered up by neighbors on the Bay Park/Bay Ho Buy Nothing page."I think I might have saved anywhere from ,500 to ,000," Sloan said.Sloan actually gifts more items than she receives."It's awesome. You can give just about anything away, and you can receive just about anything you ask for," Sloan said. 1013

Carnival Cruise Line is canceling most U.S. sailings through the end of this year. It's the latest sign that the cruise industry's recovery from the coronavirus pandemic could still be many months away.Carnival says it's canceling sailings from all ports except its home ports of Miami and Port Canaveral, Florida, but it stressed that it still might not sail from those ports in November and December.Carnival's announcement came the day after the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention extended a ban on large cruises in U.S. waters through Oct. 31.Carnival isn't the only cruise liner canceling trips because of COVID-19 - Royal Caribbean and Norwegian also announced they are canceling cruises.Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, which operates the Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises, and Regent Seven Seas Cruises, announced that it was suspending all its cruises through Nov. 30."The Company will continue to work in tandem with global government and public health authorities and its Healthy Sail Panel expert advisors to take all necessary measures to protect its guests, crew, and the communities visited," officials said in the release. On Tuesday, Royal Caribbean Group, owners of Royal Caribbean International, Azamara, Celebrity Cruises, and Silversea Cruises, said in a press release that they were extending their suspension through Nov. 30.However, they do plan to move forward with their Hong Kong cruises, which are scheduled for November, the company said in the release.Royal also added that Celebrity Cruises and Azamara had suspended their entire 2020/21 winter programs. Celebrity stopped all of its winter cruises in Australia and Asia. Chad Daybell was arrested Tuesday after investigators recovered what they believe are human remains on his property.A search warrant was executed at his home in Salem, Idaho Tuesday morning in connection to the search for two missing children — his 7-year-old stepson Joshua "JJ" Vallow and 17-year-old stepdaughter Tylee Ryan. The remains have not been identified.Police took Daybell into custody about a mile from his home as numerous police officers and FBI agents served the search warrant. He was booked into the Fremont County Jail several hours later. Specific charges were not disclosed, but authorities did say they were felony charges and that he was being held with no bond.East Idaho News reports Daybell's car was stopped about a mile from his home and police took him into custody.According to a news release from the Rexburg Police Department, its officers, with the assistance of the FBI and the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, served the search warrant around 7 a.m. Tuesday.FBI Public Affairs Specialist for the Salt Lake office, Sandra Barker, has confirmed that the FBI is assisting with the search warrant. She told CourtTV there are about 20 FBI personnel on scene helping, including agents and support staff. The warrant is sealed, meaning that the information is only available to law enforcement officers working on this case.Numerous roads around the home are closed and drivers are being re-routed.Chad and Lori Vallow Daybell were found living in Hawaii in January. Kaua'i Police and Rexburg Police served search warrants there on January 25.Lori Vallow Daybell was arrested on February 20, and has been in an Idaho jail ever since, despite several attempts to lower her bail.Chad Daybell married Lori Vallow not long after his wife, Tammy, died of reported natural causes. The Idaho Attorney General is investigating possible murder and conspiracy in her death. This is not the first time the Salem home has been searched by law enforcement officials. 1984
