BEIJING, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- The People's Bank of China (PBOC), or the central bank, announced Friday it would continue the country's moderately easy monetary policy while making it better-targeted and more flexible in the coming months of this year.The PBOC made the announcement in its report on China's financial stability, which was released on the PBOC's website.The PBOC said in the next stage it needs to skillfully handle the relationship between maintaining steady and rapid economic development, restructuring the economy and managing inflation expectations.Chinese banks should continue supporting the country's economic restructuring, guard against risks, change profit structures, and improve the capital replenishing and restriction mechanism, the central bank said in the announcement.The announcement noted that local government debt was rising quickly, corporate liquidity was decreasing with a high current debt ratio, and credit card advances were increasing despite mounting financial assets held by residents and the low debt level.It said the global financial crisis had revealed limitations and gaps in the existing regulatory system. To prevent systemic risks, the central bank would combine macro and micro-prudential supervision in its policy package.

ANKARA, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese and Turkish scholars gathered at a political forum in the Turkish capital of Ankara on Monday to discuss their economic ties, cooperation in the Middle East and coordination within the Group of 20 (G20).Wang Zhongwei, deputy director of China's State Council Information Office which sponsors the forum, said China and Turkey, both G20 members and emerging economies, share interests in such major issues as reforming international financial system and tackling climate change."We should further coordinate and cooperate in those issues. PARIS, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao's coming visit to France will help the two countries consolidate consensus on bilateral ties and major international issues, Chinese Ambassador to France Kong Quan said Monday.Kong made the remarks during a joint interview by Chinese media. BEIJING, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- China Merchants Bank said Friday its profit rose 57.4 percent to 20.59 billion yuan (3.07 billion U.S. dollars) in the first three quarters from one year earlier.The jump in net profit was mainly due to higher interest income, the bank said in its business report filed with the Shanghai Stock Exchange.Also, total assets of the mid-sized lender had expanded to 2.36 trillion yuan by the end of September, up 14.10 percent from the end of 2009.Additionally, the bank's non-performing loan ratio was 0.64 percent, down 0.18 percentage points from the beginning of this year.Shares of the bank were down 2.41 percent at 14.57 yuan in Shanghai and down 1.13 percent at 21.95 HK dollars in Hong Kong Friday.
