BEIJING, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Ministry on Thursday confirmed it had started preparations for President Hu Jintao's visit to the United States early next year, which the ministry said would be profound and far-reaching for bilateral ties."China and the United States have maintained close communications about the visit, which will be very important and will bring far-reaching influence for bilateral relations in new era," spokesman Ma Zhaoxu told a regular press briefing.Although Hu's U.S. visit had long been under discussion, it was the first time that China's foreign ministry confirmed the visit and elaborated on its significance.Ma said both China and the United States would like to see a successful visit that will boost the positive, cooperative and comprehensive China-U.S. relationship in the 21st century.At their meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Toronto in June, U.S. President Barack Obama formally invited Hu to pay a state visit to the United States early next year. BEIJING, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao Wednesday said the country's 12th five-year development plan, starting in 2011, should reflect the consensus of the entire society and motivate people from all walks of life.He also encouraged national political advisors to actively offer suggestions for the plan.Wen made the remarks in Beijing at a meeting of the Standing Committee of the 11th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China's top advisory body.The national political advisors convened their meeting two days after the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee ended a four-day plenary session that set the outline of the 12th five-year plan, with key objectives in economic restructuring and improving living standards nationwide among others.In Wednesday's meeting, Wen said the State Council, or the Cabinet, would draw up the plan as outlined by the CPC Central Committee.He also said the theme of the 12th five-year plan was "scientific development" and would require China to accelerate the transformation of its economic growth mode, which he called "a strategic task of great urgency."The meeting was presided over by Jia Qinglin, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee.

BEIJING, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said on Monday it would levy provisional anti-dumping duties of up to 37.5 percent on methanol imported from Indonesia, Malaysia and New Zealand.After a preliminary investigation, the MOC found the three countries had dumped methanol onto the market, causing material damage to Chinese manufacturers.The MOC has imposed provisional anti-dumping duties ranging between 9.3 percent and 37.5 percent effective Oct. 28, according to a news release on its website.The MOC also concluded its investigation into imports from Saudi Arabia, though no evidence of dumping was found.Methanol, also known as methyl alcohol, is used as a basic material to produce chemical products such as plastics, paint, construction materials and windshield cleaning fluid.

BEIJING, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Property prices in 70 major Chinese cities rose 9.1 percent year on year in September, the lowest growth rate so far this year, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Friday.The rate was down 0.2 percentage points from the 9.3-percent increase in August, but prices were up 0.5 percent month on month, a statement on the NBS website said.New home prices climbed 11.3 percent year on year in September, up 0.5 percent from August.Prices for second-hand homes were up 6.2 percent from a year earlier, a rise of 0.5 percent from August.Real estate investment continued to expand in the first three quarters, with the total standing at 3.4 trillion yuan (511.4 billion U.S. dollars), up 36.4 percent from the same period in 2009, the statement said.The property price growth rate peaked this year at 12.8 percent in April.
