BEIJING, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- China will strengthen exchanges and cooperation with its neighboring countries to further deepen their mutual understanding and friendship, a senior Chinese diplomat said Thursday.Hu Zhengyue, Chinese assistant foreign minister, said China supports social and cultural exchanges between different countries on the basis of respecting each other's tradition, social system and developing mode.The recent years have seen dynamic exchanges between China and its neighboring countries and their cooperation has been broadened and enriched, Hu said in a Foreign Ministry media release."In 2009 alone, there are about 21.7 million visitors coming from northeast, southeast and south Asian countries," he said."Besides, more than 160,000 foreign students studying in China in 2009 were from Asian countries," he added.China attaches great importance to enhancing communication and exchanges between young people of Asian countries, and has established young people's regular exchanging mechanism with Japan, India, Vietnam, Mongolia and Pakistan, he said.

TOKYO, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan highlighted Friday the importance of relations between Japan and China, saying it was essential to deepen the mutually beneficial relations.While Kan was explaining his concerns regarding China at the opening session of the Japanese Diet."As neighboring countries separated by a thin strip of water, Japan and China are of great importance to each other. It is acknowledged that relations between the two countries are of critical importance to the Asia-Pacific region and, I might say, the entire world," he said.He urged both countries to proceed calmly with current issues, including the recent maritime collisions in the East China Sea that sparked a diplomatic spat, saying that cooperation was indispensable."In terms of the relationship between Japan and China as a whole, it is essential we work together to deepen our mutually beneficial relationship based on common strategic interests from a broad perspective, including peace and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region and increasing cooperation in the economic field," Kan said.Seperately, Japanese Foreign Minister Seiji Maehara said Friday Japan was open to discussions with China in order to prevent further maritime incidents as strained bilateral ties between Japan and China were "not productive.""It is necessary that Japan and China reach an accord on how to avert an incident," Maehara said at a meeting hosted by Kyodo News."We are required to strategically establish a win-win relationship between the two countries, considering that tensions and confrontations are disadvantageous for both," he said.

  

BEIJING, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- China here Thursday questioned the intentions of foreign governments who supported the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize going to Liu Xiaobo, saying those governments had no right to interfere in China's internal affairs."What is the true intention of those foreign political figures and governments who support the granting of the Nobel Peace Prize to Mr. Liu Xiaobo? Is it because they resent China's development path and hate China's political system?" Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu questioned.Ma said at a regular news briefing that whether China had chosen the best way to more forward, both politically and socially, was best judged by the development reality in China, and the 1.3 billion Chinese people had the biggest say."China's affairs should be left to Chinese people themselves," Ma said, adding that the few biased individuals with the Norwegian Nobel Committee had no right to judge China, and western governments had no right to interfere in China's internal affairs."We never interfere in other's internal affairs, and will not allow others to interfere in ours, " said Ma.The Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize to Liu Xiaobo on Oct. 8th in Oslo, Norway. Liu was sentenced to 11 years in jail on Dec. 25, 2009 after a local court in Beijing convicted him of agitation aimed at subverting the government.
