CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Hundreds of thousands of veterans and active duty military call San Diego County home, but a group says they are facing big disadvantages when trying to buy a house here.The San Diego Veterans Association of Real Estate Professionals says more than 60 percent of listings in the county won't accept offers with V.A. loans.The federally backed loans don't require a down payment or mortgage insurance. Those eligible in San Diego County can borrow up to about 0,000 without any cash down. "We have served, and the V.A. loan is a guaranteed loan," said Andre Hobbs, a San Diego realtor and veteran who heads the association.Hobbs says the benefit is backfiring for some home seekers in San Diego's ultra-competitive housing market. It's because he says sellers are opting for offers instead that include cash down payment because of a misperception about V.A. applicants."They assume that this buyer is ready to walk," Hobbs said. "He's not motivated."Mark Goldman, a real-estate lecturer at San Diego State University, said there are some misconceptions about V.A. loans, such as that they are more complex. He added there are a few extra disclosures, but they aren't cumbersome. But V.A. buyers can also have an advantage if the current owner also served in the military."Luckily we may meet another veteran seller that understands, 'hey, I'm willing to do that,'" Hobbs said.    1460

China says it will impose sanctions on three U.S. lawmakers and one ambassador in response to similar actions taken by the U.S. against Chinese officials over alleged human rights abuses against Muslims in the Xinjiang region. Those targeted were U.S. Senators Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz, Rep. Chris Smith and Ambassador for Religious Freedom Sam Brownback. The four have been critical of the ruling Communist Party’s policies toward minority groups and people of faith. Last week, the U.S. imposed sanctions on four Chinese officials, including Chen Quanguo, who heads the region of Xinjiang, where more than 1 million members of Muslim minority groups have been incarcerated in what China terms de-radicalization and retraining centers. 744

CIA Director Mike Pompeo traveled to North Korea over Easter weekend for a meeting with leader Kim Jong Un, sources confirmed to CNN on Tuesday.One source said Pompeo took only intelligence officials with him on the trip, no White House or State Department officials.Trump confirmed the details himself on Twitter Wednesday morning."Mike Pompeo met with Kim Jong Un in North Korea last week. CHULA VISTA (KGTV) -- The Chula Vista Police Department is working to determine what caused a suspect to die more than 12-hours after he was taken into custody following a violent confrontation with officers.Jason Allen Watts, 29, of Spring Valley, was taken into custody Friday just before midnight after two people inside the 7-11 store at 403 Third Avenue reported him to appear under the influence of a substance and was refusing to leave. CVPD Capt. Phil Collum said Watts also called police to report that unknown persons were outside the store and were threatening to shoot him.Arriving officers encountered Watts inside the store but he ran behind the clerk’s counter and failed to comply with officer’s repeated orders, according to Collum."Officers spent time talking to Watts, trying to deescalate the situation to calm him and gain his compliance," Collum said. "As officers were talking to Watts, he punched a cash register on the counter and lifted it as though preparing to throw it at the officers."Collum said officers tried to take Watts into custody using less-lethal tools, including taser and pepper spray.Watts was eventually arrested but paramedics where called to the scene to evaluate him after he "continued to violently resist the officers," Collum said.The suspected was transported by ambulance to Paradise Valley Hospital for treatment where he was deemed suitable for incarceration by medical staff."While being booked into the San Diego County Central Detention Facility, further evaluations indicated Watts may need additional medical treatment," Collum said.Watts was subsequently transported by ambulance to UCSD Medical Center. "Once at UCSD, Watts began suffering medical complications and underwent treatment by medical staff," Collum said.  Watts was pronounced dead at 12:21 p.m. Saturday afternoon.The Chula Vista Police Department’s Crimes of Violence unit is investigating.  The cause of the death is unknown at this time. 2093
