CANBERRA, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- Former Australian Foreign Minister Gareth Evans has called on his country to "get out of the hole" into which it has dug itself with China.
Spokesperson Wang Wenbin made the remarks at a daily news briefing when asked to comment on a statement from the Office of the U.S. Director of National Intelligence John Radcliffe, saying a deadline to submit a classified report to Congress on foreign efforts to sway the Nov. 3 election will not be met.
In his speech, Xi highlighted promoting openness and inclusiveness, accelerating innovation-driven growth, enhancing regional connectivity, and pushing for mutually beneficial cooperation, as the region endeavors to dig its way out of the economic slowdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We hope that relevant countries will do the same as China does and actively cooperate with the WHO so that we can better prevent similar public health crises from occurring, and be better prepared to deal with a similar crisis when it does occur," he said.
A leaders' declaration was adopted at the summit.
