Cotton Incorporated responded on Tuesday to a viral Facebook controversy surrounding a Hobby Lobby decoration that angered a customer.The customer shared a photo of a cotton decoration on Sept. 14, 2017 on Facebook, and said it is reminiscent of slavery and those who were forced to pick cotton. She called for the retailer to remove the item from shelves."We were surprised at the initial post because cotton has been sold in craft stores and used as a botanical decoration for decades," a Cotton Incorporated spokesman said in a statement. COACHELLA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Another puppy was discovered in a dumpster at Coachella just weeks after a woman was arrested for reportedly leaving seven puppies in a trash can. According to the Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation, the puppy was found badly beaten and burned in a dumpster on the 49000 block of Harrison Street around 1 p.m. on May 5. Someone digging through the trash heard the puppy crying and took her to a nearby jewelry store, where she was rushed to an animal hospital. The weeks-old puppy also had a portion of her tail cut off and can’t walk due to being beaten. The puppy, whose name is Hope, is currently in intensive care and being monitored 24 hours a day. The foundation is offering a ,000 reward for information leading to an arrest of the person responsible. However, this year, 22% or nearly one in four college students had their summer internships canceled because of the pandemic, according to a survey done by the National Association of Colleges and Employers.“I was supposed to work with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this summer, working full-time for about 10 weeks,” said Purdue University junior Patrick Haimbaugh. “I was really excited about it, but it did get canceled.”Fortunately for Haimbaugh, when his internship fell through, a company called TechPoint was seeing how many students were losing internships and decided it wanted to help.“It felt like I had a second chance, like the summer wasn’t just going to be a blowout,” said Haimbaugh.“We thought you know what based on our organization, position and where we sit in the community, this is an area where we can make a difference,” said Mike Langellier, the CEO of TechPoint.TechPoint normally has a summer internship program that helps about 100 students, but in the wake of the wave of internship cancellations, it decided to create a second summer internship program for five times as many students. In order for customers to earn stars in their loyalty program, customers had to use a Starbucks card or gift card to pay. This forced regular customers to constantly reload their card to ensure there was enough money for their purchases.Starting Tuesday, alternative ways to pay will be allowed and still allow members to earn stars for purchases. Alternative methods include debit/credit cards, cash, and select mobile wallets.However, there’s a catch.Customers paying with their Starbucks card or gift card will earn two loyalty stars per spent, and those paying with alternative methods will earn one star per spent. 990
