SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Chula Vista City Councilman Steve Padilla says he's tested positive for COVID-19.Padilla, who represents Chula Vista's District 3, made the announcement in video Saturday that was published on his Facebook page."After recently experiencing symptoms, I was diagnosed as being positive for the COVID-19 virus, also known as the coronavirus," he said.Padilla appeared in good spirits as he told viewers that he was doing "very well" and "feeling well."In a follow up statement, he described having a fever, body aches, headaches, chills, that "came on very rapidly." He noted he had come into contact with friends, colleagues, and the public over the last week."I’m in close coordination with County Public Health officials who are taking all precautions to ensure the health of people I’ve been in contact with," he said.He was recently in Santa Cruz County where he was conducting a hearing as California Coastal Commissioner."I want to remind everyone to keep a safe distance, wash hands, and look out for the elderly most at risk," he said.Padilla has previously served as Mayor of Chula Vista from 2002-2006, and is a former officer and detective with the Chula Vista Police Department. CalFresh public assistance allots .07 daily in food benefits, according to SDHC. The system, known nationally as SNAP, helps those in need but it is insufficient for helping people meet basic needs, SDHC says. During the CalFresh Challenge, participants must spend no more than .35 for five days on all meals, drinks, and snacks. During the week, participants must not accept free food. San Diego Hunger Coalition wants participants to post about the experience on social media with the hashtag #CalFreshChallenge. Participants are also asked to donate to SDHC. 784

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – At least 10 people were arrested during demonstrations in downtown San Diego Wednesday night that were sparked by the grand jury decision in the Breonna Taylor case.ABC 10News learned there were initially two separate protests planned in the downtown area. Eventually, the two groups joined together.Protesters marched through downtown chanting and holding signs demanding justice for Taylor. The demonstration made its way to San Diego Police Department headquarters on Broadway.Shortly after 10 p.m., SDPD tweeted that there were acts of violence and vandalism and declared the protest outside headquarters “an unlawful assembly.”According to the tweet, the crowd was ordered to disperse or face arrest. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Authorities are investigating a fire that destroyed a car parked on the side of the freeway in Logan Heights early Monday morning.According to the California Highway Patrol, The incident happened at about 3 a.m. on the southbound lanes of Interstate 15 at Oceanview Blvd.When fire crews arrived, the car was fully engulfed. Firefighters were able to put the fire out quickly.When the smoke cleared, deputies found a rag in the gas tank and says it appeared the car had been set on fire intentionally.No injuries were reported.Arson investigators are looking into the cause of the fire. 613
