NORTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — A man found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound Monday is believed to be connected to a shooting at a federal judge's New Jersey home Sunday, killing her son and injuring her husband, law enforcement sources told PIX11 News. The man was found dead in a vehicle on Route 17 in Sullivan County, New York, wearing a FedEx shirt, sources said.Gov. Phil Murphy said he had no comment about the development when asked about it Monday at his daily press briefing. The discovery comes after a gunman opened fire at Judge Esther Salas' North Brunswick home Sunday, killing her 20-year-old son, Daniel, and wounding her husband, defense lawyer Mark Anderl, Chief District Judge Freda Wolfson told the Associated Press.Another law enforcement source, who wasn’t authorized to comment and spoke anonymously to the AP Sunday, said the gunman posed as a FedEx delivery driver. They said Salas wasn't injured as she was in the basement at the time of the shooting. The FBI said late Sunday it was looking for one suspect in connection with the shooting.Officials have not commented on any possible motive for the shooting.Judge Salas was set to preside over a class action lawsuit filed last Wednesday against Deutsche Bank. The suit claims the bank failed to properly monitor several high risk customer accounts, including one belonging to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.Gov. Murphy Sunday called the shooting a "senseless act.""This tragedy is our latest reminder that gun violence remains a crisis in our country and that our work to make every community safer isn’t done," he said.“I know Judge Salas and her husband well, and was proud to recommend her to President Obama for nomination to New Jersey’s federal bench," Sen. Bob Menendez said. "My prayers are with Judge Salas and her family, and that those responsible for this horrendous act are swiftly apprehended and brought to justice.”North Brunswick Mayor Mac Womack said in a statement: "No words can express the sadness and loss we share tonight as a community after [the] senseless shootings...We commit to do all we can to support the family at this time, as well as all law enforcement agencies involved."The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office assisted the North Brunswick Police Department in the investigation. This story originally reported by Aliza Chasan , Associated Press , Katie Corrado on PIX11.com. 2409

NEW YORK (KGTV) -- An explosion in Queens, New York turned the sky an eerie shade of blue Thursday night. Video posted on social media shows the sky glowing a light blue color as an explosion could be seen off in the distance. WABC reported that the incident was caused by a transformer explosion at a power plant. Utility company Con Edison spokesman Bob McGee told the Associated Press what happened was an "arc flash" — somewhat like a bolt of lightning — after a malfunction in equipment that carries 138,000 volts of electricity 20 feet (6 meters) up in the air. He said the flash subsided on its own.The incident sparked a power outage at LaGuardia Airport, forcing the FAA to issue a ground stop. NEW YORK (AP) — A federal judge on Sunday postponed a Trump administration order that would have banned the popular video sharing app TikTok from U.S. smartphone app stores around midnight. A more comprehensive ban remains scheduled for November, about a week after the presidential election. The judge, Carl Nichols of the U.S District Court for the District of Columbia, did not postpone that later ban. The ruling followed an emergency hearing Sunday morning in which lawyers for TikTok argued that the administration’s app-store ban would infringe on First Amendment rights and do irreparable harm to the business.Earlier this year, President Donald Trump declared that TikTok, owned by Chinese company ByteDance, was a threat to national security and that it must either sell its U.S. operations to American companies or be barred from the country.TikTok is still scrambling to firm up a deal tentatively struck a week ago in which it would partner with Oracle, a huge database-software company, and Walmart in an effort to win the blessing of both the Chinese and American governments. In the meantime, it is fighting to keep the app available in the U.S.TikTok said in a statement that it was pleased with the court ruling and continues to work to turn its deal proposal into an actual agreement. The Commerce Department, which is responsible for the specific orders banning TikTok, said it will comply with the judge’s order but intends to vigorously defend the administration’s efforts against the app. 1519

Nearly two years after his extradition from Mexico, notorious cartel boss Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman Loera faces an American jury on Tuesday in the most significant criminal trial in decades. The man once considered the world's biggest drug trafficker is accused of heading a criminal enterprise that spanned continents and triggered waves of bloodshed throughout his native Mexico. His long-awaited trial before US District Court Judge Brian Cogan in Brooklyn federal court begins with opening statements Tuesday under unprecedented security measures, including armed escorts for the anonymous and partly sequestered jurors.Even before the start of a trial that could last four months, heavily armed federal marshals and officers with bomb-sniffing dogs stand guard outside the courthouse. Metal detectors greet visitors at the entrance to the courtroom. The Brooklyn Bridge shuts downs each time a police motorcade -- including an ambulance and SWAT team -- shuttles Guzman to and from the Manhattan federal lockup."El Chapo, despite his defense that he was just a minor player, was reputed to be the innovative spirit behind the Sinaloa cartel," said Bruce Bagley, an expert on Mexico's drug cartels at the University of Miami. "He is, in many ways, a survivor." 1270

NEW YORK (AP) — This year’s Black Friday was the biggest ever for online sales, as fewer people hit the stores and shoppers rang up .4 billion in transactions from their phones, computers and tablets. That’s just behind the .9 billion haul of last year’s Cyber Monday, which holds the one-day record for online sales, according to Adobe Analytics. Adobe measures sales at 80 of the top 100 U.S. online retailers.Adobe expects online sales to jump to another record this Cyber Monday with an estimated total of .4 billion. Much of the shopping is happening on people’s phones, which accounted for 39% of all online sales Friday and 61% of online traffic.Shoppers have been looking for “Frozen 2” toys in particular. Other top purchases included sports video games and Apple laptops. All the online shopping may have helped thin the crowd at malls on Black Friday.Traffic at stores fell 2.1% on Black Friday from a year ago, according to preliminary figures from RetailNext. It tracks in-store activity at tens of thousands of locations, including specialty apparel retailers, big-box stores and mall-based stores. The drop in traffic helped lead to a 1.6% dip in sales.Online and in-store shopping aren’t always completely separate, though. Many people buy things online, only to head to the store to pick them up. Such sales surged 43.2% on Black Friday from a year ago, according to Adobe. This holiday shopping season may be the most harried in years because it’s the shortest since 2013. Thanksgiving this year fell on the last Thursday in November — the latest possible date it could be.Much is riding on the success of the holiday season’s sales. The U.S. economy is still growing steadily, but gains have slowed since its sizzling start to the year. Economists say strong spending by households is helping to bolster growth and make up for weak confidence among businesses given all the uncertainties about the U.S.-China trade war and other factors. 1967
