"We were already selling our own chocolate, we're also selling local food brands, we do that all the time, so really it was just a matter of rearranging our own furniture," said Daniel Youngren, a co-owner of the eatery. Restaurants across San Diego County have been hit hard due to the restrictions, with many either shutting down or offering discounts for takeout. More than 126,000 San Diegans work in the industry, which has seen employees either lose their jobs or have their hours cut.Youngren says Eclipse Chocolate is no exception, with a number of its 20 employees seeing fewer hours and applying for unemployment assistance. Still, he says this allows the restaurant to make up at least a portion of the revenue lost and keep some workers busy, while also fulfilling its mission of getting food to people who are hungry.On Thursday, Eclipse Chocolate had used the tables from its dining room to offer apples, tomatoes, onions, cauliflower, to name a few. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 22-year-old man was stabbed early today and he walked into a Kerny Mesa hotel for help.The stabbing was reported at 2:05 a.m. in the 5400 block of Kearny Mesa Road, according to San Diego police Officer Robert Heims.The wounded man walked into the lobby of the Marriott hotel to get help, Heims said.The victim was taken to a hospital for a stab wound in his body that is not believed life-threatening, he said.He described his assailant as a bald male, about 6 feet tall, with tattoos. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 20-year-old man was arrested today on suspicion of attempted murder following a SWAT standoff after a shooting in the City Heights area that sent two people to the hospital, police said.The shooting occurred in the 1800 block of Rowan Street at 9:30 p.m. Friday, according to Lt. Andra Brown of the San Diego Police Department.When officers arrived on scene, they found a 21-year-old man with an apparent gunshot wound to his head, Brown said. The victim directed officers to his companion, who was seated in a nearby car and also appeared to have been shot.The officers provided aid to the victims, who were later taken to a hospital, Brown said. The man who called for help is expected to survive his injuries, but the other victim was not expected to survive.Homicide detectives were called to the scene to investigate. ``While the investigation has just begun, detectives have learned that the two men arrived in San Diego from Central California to meet with a male at 1700 Rowan Street,'' Brown said. ``It is believed the men were meeting to conduct a marijuana transaction. The suspect shot both victims and fled to a nearby residence.''A SWAT team and emergency negotiators arrived and attempted to talk the suspect into surrendering peacefully, the lieutenant said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A collective of conservation organizations filed lawsuits Thursday against San Diego County and its board of supervisors for approving a controversial housing development in the Otay Ranch community, with the groups claiming that the development endangers wildlife and the development's future residents. The project known as Adara was approved last month with a 3-2 vote and involves construction of more than 1,000 homes and a commercial village core, along with an elementary school, fire station, sheriff's office, trails, electric vehicle charging stations, solar panels and more than 700 acres of open space and parks. Environmental groups contend that its location, between the city of Chula Vista and rural community Jamul, is home to several endangered and protected plant and animal species and is at exceptional risk for wildfires. Plaintiffs include the Center for Biological Diversity, Preserve Wild Santee, the California Chaparral Institute, Endangered Habitats League, California Native Plant Society and the Sierra Club. ``Building houses in this fire-prone place will put people at risk, and it'll wreak havoc on golden eagles and other wildlife,'' said Peter Broderick, an attorney with the Center for Biological Diversity. ``By approving this sprawl project, officials have put both homeowners and wildlife in danger. They've dealt a big setback to sustainable development in San Diego County.'' In their complaint, the plaintiffs referenced county data identifying ``22 special-status plants and 28 special-status wildlife species'' on the project site. They also allege that the area is especially prone to wildfires, which was noted by Supervisor Dianne Jacob in her dissenting vote on the project. The complaint states the area ``has burned at least 17 times in the last 100 years'' and is ``at serious risk for fast-moving, wind-driven fires.'' The site's steep terrain would make suppressing fires difficult, and homeowners would only have one evacuation route available, according to the plaintiffs. Peter Andersen, chair of the Sierra Club's San Diego Chapter, called the project ``a fire trap that endangers all East County residents, contributes to severe traffic jams and destroys multiple species' habitat,'' while Richard Halsey of the California Chaparral Institute said ``History has shown that during a wind-driven wildfire, developments like this one in a known fire corridor can and have been destroyed by embers flying a mile or more ahead of the flame front. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A gunman who allegedly tried to mug a man he met online under the pretense of buying a gold chain outside a Chula Vista Costco, was behind bars Wednesday, facing a robbery charge.Albert Molina, 30, was arrested Tuesday after a scuffle in which the 23-year-old alleged victim snatched away his gun, fired a shot and held him at gunpoint while calling 911, according to police.Prior to the confrontation, Molina and the other man had communicated via OfferUp, an online service that facilitates private sales of used goods, Lt. Dan Peak said.Meeting the seller outside a Costco store in the 1100 block of Broadway, Molina agreed to buy a gold chain and provided a money order to supposedly pay for it. The two men tried to cash the check together, but found it was no good, according to police.They went to Molina's car and were sitting in it when the seller asked Molina to return his chain, which Molina was wearing, Peak said, adding "the suspect refused and pulled out a gun."The two men wrestled over the gun, which ended up in the seller's possession as he fell out of the vehicle. Believing Molina was going to run him over, he fired a round in Molina's direction, then held him at gunpoint while summoning police.Patrol officers arrived shortly after 7:30 p.m. and took both men into custody.
