BEIJING, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- The Agricultural Bank of China (ABC), one of China's "big four" state-owned commercial banks, won the title for the world's largest initial public offering (IPO) after selling another 3.34 billion shares at its IPO price of 2.68 yuan per share.The ABC said in a statement at the Shanghai Stock Exchange Sunday that it raised an additional 8.94 billion yuan (1.31 billion U.S. dollars) after fully exercising the over-allotment option of its Shanghai share offering. The bank has now raised 22.1 billion U.S. dollars.The previous record was set by the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, which raised a record 21.9 billion U.S. dollars in its IPO in 2006.ABC shares rose 0.37 percent to 2.69 yuan on the Shanghai bourse Friday.The ABC is the last of the "big four" state-owned commercial lenders to go public. The other three banks -- the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, China Construction Bank and Bank of China, are listed on both Shanghai and Hong Kong bourses.The over-allotment, or so-called greenshoe option, allows the sale of additional shares to the public if demand is high.

BEIJING, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Food, clothing and shelter supplies for the mudslide-affected people in Zhouqu County in northwest China's Gansu Province are to be properly handled, the Ministry of Civil Affairs said Tuesday.The affected people will be helped by the government to reconstruct their homes, the ministry said in a statement.China's Ministry of Finance has allocated 500 million yuan (73 million U.S. dollars) for emergency aid to fund the relief efforts.The statement said the resettlement program will be carried out in three stages.The first stage of emergency aid is resettling the affected people in temporary shelters.The second stage is the stopgap resettlement of people in houses of relatives, friends, neighbors as well as rented houses and houses offered by the government.The third stage is reconstruction and the moving of people into their new homes.Efforts should be made to finish reconstruction of toppled houses before winter sets in, or no later than June 2011, the statement said, noting the repair of damaged houses shall be finished by November this year.The ministry will soon flesh out the resettlement program after learning further details of the disaster, an official at the Ministry of Civil Affairs said.The death toll from the massive rain-triggered mudslide in Zhouqu County has risen to 702, with 1,042 others still missing.Also on Tuesday, the Ministry of Civil Affairs said 7,000 tents, 21,400 cotton quilts, 5,000 folding beds and 5,000 sleeping bags had arrived in Zhouqu.Along with the shelter supplies, instant noodles, drinking water, generators, candles and flashlights have also arrived in the county, with more supplies en route.In addition, the State Administration of Radio Film and Television has transported 10,000 radios and 5,000 televisions and satellite dishes to the affected area to ensure local people know the latest information concerning the rescue and relief efforts.As of 6 p.m. Monday, the Red Cross Society of China and its local branches had offered relief funds and materials worth more than 6 million yuan (about 886,000 U.S. dollars).The organization has called for more donations, asking the public to log on to redcross.org.cn to donate, apart from donating through banks and post offices.The State Council, China's Cabinet, released a circular Tuesday calling for better coordination between local rescue and relief teams.The circular encouraged financial donations from the public for the organized procurement of supplies.It also urged people other than rescue and relief workers to not go to the disaster-hit county.

ZURICH, Switzerland, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo and Doris Leuthard, president of the Swiss Confederation, held talks on Sunday and agreed to expand their bilateral cooperation.Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), delivered Chinese President Hu Jintao's regards to Leuthard. He said China will work together with Switzerland to push forward the Sino-Swiss ties.The Chinese and Swiss economies are highly complementary and have large potential in economic cooperation, said Wu. BEIJING, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Economic data for May released Friday showed that China was eyeing rising inflation and slowing economic growth, indicative of what the "the most complicated year" meant for the country's economy.Experts said the mixed bag of economic data would make it difficult for China's policymakers in the coming months.China's consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, rose in May to 3.1 percent, the highest since November 2008, according to figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) Friday.The NBS also reported that growth of industrial value-added output slowed to 16.5 percent in May from 17.8 percent in April.Urban fixed assets investment for the first five months rose 25.9 percent year on year, 0.2 percentage points down from the first four months.INFLATION QUICKENSThe 3.1 percent CPI growth was up 0.3 percentage points from April's rise of 2.8 percent. In the first five months, China's CPI rose 2.5 percent year on year.The May figure exceeded the government's year-average target of 3 percent set in March.The producer price index (PPI), a major measure of inflation at the wholesale level, rose 7.1 percent year on year in May, up 0.3 percentage points from April's 6.8 percent.In May, the CPI in China's urban areas increased 2.9 percent and in rural regions by 3.3 percent. Food prices, which accounted for about a third of the weighting in calculating the CPI, rose 6.1 percent.

BEIJING, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) - China's Ministry of Agriculture Friday urged local authorities in flood-hit regions to step up efforts to resume agricultural production and create favorable conditions for the autumn harvest following this summer's severe floods.Local departments were ordered to accelerate water drainage, restore damaged infrastructures, strengthen field management, and plant mung bean, potatoes and buckwheat, which have short growth periods, to make up for losses, according to an official from the ministry.The official also required departments to clear away and carry out bio-safety disposal of dead livestock, while increasing epidemic control measures.As of July 21, more than 7 million hectares of farmland in China had been destroyed by torrential rains and floods, according to data from the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters.
