POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) - Restaurants and bars in Poway are back in business after a boil water advisory forced them to shut down for nearly a week. The precautionary advisory was lifted Friday evening for the roughly 190 businesses. Mike Hamama owns Giant New York Pizza. He's still surprised it happened. "At first, I thought it was a joke, cause it's never happened after 32 years being in Poway," said Hamama.RELATED: Poway could face fines as water boil advisory continuesPoway's mayor and the Chamber of Commerce are launching restaurant month beginning on Wednesday. They're urging people across the county to come to Poway and "Eat big. Tip big."Business owners said they'll take all the help they can get."It's really bad, it's really bad . You're losing customers, and then when you open, it's going to be slow, cause it's not routine anymore," said Hamama. Hamama and roughly 20 other business owners paid the nearly 0 fee to get a modified permit from the health department, allowing them to open before the advisory was lifted, but with several restrictions. Wednesday, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors will discuss reimbursing owners for that fee. In another setback, Hamama and others learned their insurance won't cover their losses.RELATED: Poway server gets ,000 tip after restaurant reopens"They said nothing, you're not covered only for damage, and fire," said Hamama.George Nasrawi and his family own Victor's Kafe. Monday afternoon, they were busy catching up on catering orders."My main concern during this whole thing was the employees not being able to work, especially with the holidays coming up," said Nasrawi. The advisory was issued after some residents reported brown water coming out of their faucets. City officials say a backed-up storm drain spewed run-off into the city's clearwell reservoir during the recent storms. Business owners said they understand the need for the advisory, but questioned its length."You gotta have safety first, especially when it comes to water, you don't want another Flint Michigan thing," said Nasrawi. 2087

President Donald Trump on Friday nixed plans for Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to travel to North Korea to hold a next round of denuclearization talks, citing insufficient progress on the issue."I have asked Secretary of State Mike Pompeo not to go to North Korea, at this time, because I feel we are not making sufficient progress with respect to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula," Trump tweeted on Friday. "Secretary Pompeo looks forward to going to North Korea in the near future, most likely after our Trading relationship with China is resolved."Trump canceled the trip just a day after Pompeo announced his plans to make his fourth visit to Pyongyang next week. There were no plans for a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.Trump on Friday also blamed the exchange of tariffs battle between the US and China for the lack of progress on North Korean denuclearization, something he has previously hinted at."Because of our much tougher Trading stance with China, I do not believe they are helping with the process of denuclearization as they once were (despite the UN Sanctions which are in place)," Trump in one of three tweets Friday afternoon on the issue.Despite the cancellation, Trump sent his "warmest regards and respect" to Kim and said he looks "forward to seeing him soon!"The-CNN-Wire 1330
Postmaster General Louis DeJoy said this week now is the time for Congress to act in order to enact legislative and regulatory reforms as the agency says it is strapped for cash.DeJoy’s statement comes as Senator Joe Manchin, D-WV, said in a letter to Dejoy that USPS locations in his state are slated to close or reducing hours. Manchin said he is concerned that the postal service will be less accessible to his constituents.“As a public service, USPS is legally required to deliver mail, to all postal addresses in all regions, at a flat rate, no matter how far it may have to travel,” Manchin said in a letter to DeJoy. “The Service’s affordability and continued accessibility are essential for rural communities, especially those with high rates of poverty. In many areas where reliable broadband is not an option, the Postal Service is their only link to medicine, social security checks, and family members. In recent years, the USPS has seen a decrease in mail volume, going from 170.9 billion pieces of mail in 2010 to 142.6 billion in 2019. Meanwhile, USPS continues to operate routes six days a week.To combat the decrease in revenue, DeJoy wants to implement reforms and cut overtime from the budget. The moves could cause delays in shipments, however.“The Postal Service has spent the last four years unsuccessfully trying to obtain reform legislation from Congress and pricing reform from the PRC, while remaining focused on the efficiency of our operations,” DeJoy said. “Given our current situation, it is critical that the Postal Service take a fresh look at our operations and make necessary adjustments. We are highly focused on our public service mission to provide prompt, reliable, and efficient service to every person and business in this country, and to remain a part of the nation’s critical infrastructure.”Unlike most government agencies, the USPS is statutorily self-reliant, dependent on revenue from services and not from tax funds. 1970
