Dozens of wildfires are burning throughout California in August as news is emerging that a wildfire burning in Northern California is the largest in state history. The fires burning a few miles apart, known as the Mendocino Complex, started on July 27 and now encompasses an area the size of Los Angeles. 2018 also marks the second straight year California has recorded the state's largest wildfire following the Thomas Fire in 2017. A fire that began Monday is also spreading quickly in Orange County. Known as the Holy Fire, the blaze is tearing through fuel that has been accumulating for 40 years. EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- Grossmont College and the office of Senator Joel Anderson came together for the eighth year in a row to honor the victims of September 11th. The day before the ceremony, volunteers put up 2,977 flags one for each life taken that September morning. San Diego native and 9/11 survivor, Bill Hay, was the keynote speaker for the memorial. Hay was on the 55th floor of the north tower when the first plane hit.Hay is 89-years-old and a Marine veteran with two purple hearts. He says he shares his story every year because he doesn't want younger generations to forget about what happened. The ceremony included other speakers from Grossmont College, CAL-FIRE and students from Steele Canyon High School. 755
EL CAJON (CNS) - A motorcyclist was killed today in a collision with a truck on an El Cajon freeway onramp.The fatal crash on the entrance from Greenfield Drive to eastbound Interstate 8 occurred shortly before noon, according to the El Cajon Police Department and the California Highway Patrol.The accident forced closures of the connector and one westbound lane on the adjacent street, and prompted the CHP to issue a traffic alert for the area.The affected traffic lanes were open again as of 1:15 p.m., according to Caltrans. 537
