BROOMFIELD, Colo. -- Scripps station KMGH in Denver spoke to a heartbroken Broomfield family who was scammed out of a lot of money and who is sharing their story in the hope no one else falls victim to the same scam.Bre Madsen and her dad, Terry, have always loved Labrador retrievers."As soon as I saw Leeya's face, I thought for sure this puppy grabs your heart."But when Terry saw 9-week-old adorable Leeya on GreatRetrievers.com, he knew she was the one."I'd really like a purebred 'cause I’d like to do some pheasant hunting as I get closer to retirement,” said Terry. The breeder appeared to be based in Texas and listed the lab at a reasonable price tag: 9. The breeder even offered free shipping, immunizations, guaranteed health record and was ready to go.Terry paid the amount two weeks ago and is still waiting for Leeya. He can’t seem to reach the breeder anymore by phone, but still receives the random excuse via email, explaining the missed shipping date."Just couldn't get this puppy on the airplane. Things weren't going right," said Terry as he recounted the last excuse he was given.Bre wanted to be sure about the scam and pretended to be someone else interested in Leeya."When I'm on the phone with the guy and he's telling me that Leeya is still available, it took everything in me not to just break down and cry," said Bre.KMGH tried calling multiple times and did not reach anyone, nor a recorded voicemail associated with the breeder. We started digging into the testimonials on the breeder website too.A photo of a little girl in a hospital bed with a caption from her mother, about how helpful the golden retriever was to her daughter stricken with cancer, is actually ripped from an AP article. The picture is of a little girl with cancer but the girl is located in Ecuador, and that dog... well, it’s actually a cocker spaniel.Unless there's a good explanation, it seems like Leeya might not make it to Colorado, so Bre and Terry are sharing their story."It was so hard to see my dad get his heart broken like that and I just thought if there was anything that would help this from happening to anyone else, I would do it. I don't want them to do this to another family," said Bre.For more information about the Pet Animal Care Facilities Act under the Colorado Department of Agriculture, visit PACFA where you can file a complaint if you suspect someone is posing as a breeder. Also, any person operating as a breeder must register and be licensed with the USDA. BRISTOL, Wis. -- For a fruit farmer who knew little about growing flowers, the pandemic was the perfect nudge to try something new. So, he plowed over his strawberry fields to plant a patch of sunshine and it’s grown beyond his wildest dreams.Scott Thompson’s family has been farming strawberries in Bristol, Wisconsin, for generations.“We've been around for a just about 100 years.”As the general manager of Thompson Strawberry Farms, he says they’ve adapted over time starting with apples and strawberries at first.“We've kind of morphed over the years where we have raspberries and pumpkins as well.”But this year, the pick-your-own farm traded the sweet fruits for something more picturesque.“This year is our first crack at pick your own sunflowers,” said Thompson.Even though Thompson knew very little about the bright yellow flower, he started out slow, until the pandemic hit and then had a thought.“This might be something that people might be really interested in. And so, I started planting. I did a small four-acre field then another four acres, then 10 acres. So, it just kind of grew, grew, grew.”He ended up planting not hundreds or thousands, but 2.2 million sunflower seeds across 22 acres of fields.“Having sunflowers is cool, but having a lot of sunflowers, that's really cool,” he said. For visitors like Sarah Akers and her 2-year-old son Xavier, it’s an eye-popping treat.“When they said how big it was, this is not what I was expecting,” said Akers. “It definitely is more impressive than what it sounds like when you just read about it.”It’s also a paradise for pollinators. Bees buzz from flower to flower. And with 15 fields, Thompson says it’s a great outing during the pandemic.“It's a perfectly natural social distancing activity,” said Thompson. The massive blooms have attracted visitors from all over the country. Debbie Berdinski, visiting from Alabama, was enthralled.“I love it. I think it's beautiful,” she said. And the decision to swap out strawberries for sunflowers has unexpectedly turned Thompson’s farm into his very own golden field of dreams.“You could really just go out and have a fun time and kind of forget about reality for a little bit,” he said. “Just enjoy being out here in this sea of yellow flowers.”And in a year like 2020, a little sunshine goes a long way. 2320

BOCA RATON, Fla. - A young girl with a big heart and a love of music recently started a charity event to raise money in the fight against Parkinson's disease.Music has been a part of 11-year-old Kasey Moore's life since she picked up a violin at the age of three."I enjoyed it more and more as I grew older," Kasey said. Now, she is practicing playing the piano every day."When I practice, some part inside of me gets alive," Kasey said.Because of the pandemic, she's been able to dedicate more time to her musical passion while at home with her family. Her father, Dr. Henry Moore, is a neurologist at the University of Miami who specializes in movement disorders like Parkinson's disease."He helps people that suffer from this terrible disease called Parkinson's, and this disease affects their brain," Kasey said. Facebook, WPTV An 11-year-old Boca Raton girl used her time during the pandemic to start a fundraiser to help benefit the Parkinson Foundation. Moore has been spending more time working from his home office, which gave Kasey a chance to feed her curiosity while her dad cared for patients."She was very moved by people, how they were very disabled, and then with the medication, they were super happy and so hopeful that this disease will stop," Moore said."It really touched my heart, and I wanted to do something to help, but I wasn't sure how," Kasey said. She decided to do her part to fight Parkinson's disease by creating a fundraiser called "Parkin-Song." WPTV Kasey Moore's love of music started at an early age, and she continues to play the piano regularly. The goal is to use music to raise money and awareness on behalf of the Parkinson's Foundation."The way we always have raised her is to think first [about] others, and that will give you happiness," said Kasey's mother.Kasey's music and kind heart quickly got the attention of some big names, including Gloria Estefan. Her father said she's onto something with the healing power of music."There is music therapy even tested for Parkinson's disease patients, and it helps a lot. Music goes deep into the brain and is able to awaken certain areas of the brain that the patient needs," said Moore.Despite the ongoing search for a cure, Kasey said she hopes Parkinson's patients listening to "Parkin-Song" still take something away from the music."I hope they get a little more cheerful and just a little happier," Kasey said.Click here to learn more about Kasey and "Parkin-Song."Chris Gilmore with WPTV in West Palm Beach, Florida, first reported this story. 2628

Britain's Princess Eugenie has married Jack Brooksbank in Windsor's second royal wedding of the year. The ceremony took place in St. George's Chapel, which also hosted the wedding of Harry and Meghan Markle, now the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, in May.Pixie Geldof, British model, singer and third daughter of Irish singer-songwriter Bob Geldof and the late television presenter Paula Yates, was among the early arrivals at the chapel on a windy but sunny fall morning.A wide variety of colors were on display, from autumnal maroons to pastel shades. Several women struggled to hold on to their hats as a strong wind whipped across the grounds of Windsor Castle.Model and actress Cara Delevingne arrived at the castle in a suit and top hat, while actress Demi Moore selected a dark red dress by Stella McCartney. Moore was accompanied by American florist and perfumer Eric Buterbaugh, with whom she has been friends for many years.American actress Liv Tyler, who arrived with Dave Gardner, chose a midnight tailored suit with midnight velvet pumps and a black velvet box clutch by Stella McCartney, a headdress by Stephen Jones and jewelry by Van Cleef & Arpels.Naomi Campbell was seen wearing a metallic black ombré cocktail dress and cropped cape, featuring hand-woven silk tulle tweed by Ralph & Russo.Robbie Williams, British singer and former member of pop group Take That, was spotted arriving at Windsor with his wife and fellow X-Factor judge Ayda Field. They have been friends of Eugenie and her sister Beatrice for years and their daughter Theodora is a bridesmaid at the ceremony.British artist Tracy Emin, comedian and writer Stephen Fry, and singer Ellie Goulding also took their places in the chapel in the run-up to the ceremony, as did many members of the royal family, including the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The former Kate Middleton, now the Duchess of Cambridge, wore a long-sleeved red gown by Alexander McQueen.Brooksbank works as a brand ambassador for Casamigos tequila, which was co-founded by actor George Clooney, property developer Mike Meldman and Rande Gerber, the entrepreneur husband of supermodel Cindy Crawford.Eugenie, 28, is the younger daughter of Prince Andrew, Queen Elizabeth II's third child, and Sarah, Duchess of York. She is ninth in line to the throne and works as the director of the Hauser & Wirth art gallery in London. While she has not attracted anything like the global attention bestowed upon her cousin Harry and his American bride, Eugenie's wedding is not a small, or cheap, affair.More than 800 guests gathered in the Gothic chapel for the ceremony at 11 a.m. (6 a.m. ET), 200 more than were invited to watch the Duke and Duchess marry. The Queen, Prince Philip and most of the royals were in attendance, with Eugenie's sister Beatrice taking on the role of maid of honor. Thomas Brooksbank, the groom's younger brother, was the best man.The one notable absence was the Duchess of Cornwall, the wife of Prince Charles, who is attending a longstanding engagement at a Scottish school.Prince George and Princess Charlotte -- the two oldest children of William and Catherine, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge -- both have official roles at the wedding. George, 5, who is third in line to the throne, is a page boy and his 3-year-old sister is one of six bridesmaids. The Princess first met her fiancé on a ski trip near Verbier in the Swiss Alps. Brooksbank proposed during a vacation in Nicaragua last winter. The wedding service featured a personal prayer by Archbishop of York John Sentamu, while David Conner, the Dean of Windsor, gave the address and is officiating.Opera singer Andrea Bocelli and members of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra performed at the wedding, and a fanfare was played by trumpeters from the band of the Household Cavalry. As the couple depart the chapel, the steps will be lined with members of the Grenadier Guards. Prince Andrew, is a colonel with the guards. The newlyweds will leave in a carriage procession through Windsor, though the route will be far shorter than the one taken by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The cost of security will be borne by the taxpayer, which has raised concerns among republicans who note that the Princess does not carry out official royal duties on behalf of the Queen. The Queen will host an afternoon reception in St. George's Hall, with more celebrations planned for the evening at Royal Lodge, the York family home in Windsor Great Park.The-CNN-Wire 4521
