After entering the house, officers found an Asian man and woman in their 50s dead with trauma to their upper bodies.RELATED: Couple found dead at home in Torrey Highlands after missing trip to San FranciscoPolice say they now believe the couple was murdered by their son, who then reportedly jumped from the Eastgate Mall overpass over I-805 on August 16 at 1:55 a.m. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, police say. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Most above-ground power lines in San Diego may soon be gone. The City of San Diego has an aggressive plan to move the lines underground, and they want your input at a meeting next week.People in Ocean Beach aren’t looking forward to the headache during construction, but can’t wait until the power poles are gone.Wayne Samuel works at Ozzie's Import Auto in Ocean Beach. The process to move utility wires outside his business underground has already begun.“So far they’ve taken underground connections from building to power grid,” said Samuel.A map of the plan shows there are 1,000 miles left to transfer underground. The city plans to bury 15 miles a year. The project will be funded by a surcharge on your SDG&E power bill that you’ve been paying since 2002. The city says you won’t see an increase in your bill, even though the price tag is in the billions. The reason for going underground? Fire safety and aesthetics.“I think it’s a good idea getting billboards and power lines out of the visible view of the public,” Samuel said.Arthur Harral has lived in Ocean Beach for more than 40 years. He’s dealt with the pre-construction and paid for the surcharges, but doesn’t mind.“It’s a wonderful deal. In some states across the country, in Colorado, they have them underground, and I’m all for it in San Diego,” said Harral.Construction will last 18 to 36 months. Once the new underground utility lines are in place, the city will install curb ramps, replace street trees, and repair damaged pavement.A public meeting about the plans will take place downtown next Tuesday at 5:30 in the Auditorium at the San Diego Public Utilities Department located at 9192 Topaz Way. 1707

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Police are searching for a group of males targeting local Apple stores in the North County.Police said two Apple locations, one in Carlsbad and the other in Escondido, have been targeted in a series of grab and runs. During the incidents, police say the males generally enter in hoodies or jackets and grab multiple Apple devices on display tables before quickly exiting.Outside, a getaway vehicle is usually waiting, police added.MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhoodThe thefts occurred at the Carlsbad location, 1923 Calle Barcelona in the Forum Carlsbad, on May 16, June 18, July 11, and July 13, and the Escondido store, at 272 E. Via Rancho Parkway at Westfield North County, on July 9.The suspects are described as African-American males in their early 20s, wearing hoodie sweatshirts or jackets with the hood portion tied closely to their heads. There may also be a female suspect involved, police said.Since January 2018, the incidents have resulted in more than 0,000 of losses. In several instances, police say citizens have tried to step in and stop the suspects from fleeing the store and have been injured.RELATED: Thieves steal ,000 in merchandise from Apple Store in brazen robberyPolice said the series of thefts are likely linked to other similar instances reported around California.Anyone with information is asked to call the Carlsbad Police Department at 760-931-2156 or Escondido Police at 760-839-4739. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Proposition 16 takes on the issue of affirmative action, which has been banned in California since the mid-1990s.Voters approved the ban on affirmative action in the form of Proposition 209 in 1996. It added a new section to the State Constitution which “generally banned the consideration of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin in public employment, public education, and public contracting in California,” according to the Legislative Analyst’s Office.Ahmad Mahmuod is a San Diego native and third-year student at UC Berkeley. He plans to become an attorney.“Growing up, I've never known a single black lawyer,” Mahmuod said. “Even coming to UC Berkeley, I've had challenges connecting with other black male lawyers.”He approves of Proposition 16.“You can’t be what you can’t see,” Mahmuod said. “I do see when companies and environments and campuses are more diverse and inclusive, that they thrive, and they end up doing better.”Legal analyst Dan Eaton examined the Yes on 16 ads airing on television.“Proposition 16 takes on discrimination. Some women make as little as 42 percent of what a man makes. Voting yes on Prop 16 helps us fix that,” according to the campaign ad.“The interesting thing about Prop 16 and this ad in particular, is it doesn’t talk about how it takes on discrimination,” Eaton said.Eaton adds that the source of the statistic on women in the ad is not given. The official ballot argument on the voter guide talks about “white women [making] 80 cents on the dollar” compared to men, but does not refer to any number less than that.According to a campaign spokesperson, the 42 percent figure refers to a statistic from the National Women’s Law Center about Latinas in California. The ad is paid for by a group called Opportunity for All Coalition. It said the Yes campaign is supported by leaders, like Senator Kamala Harris. In the 30 second advertisement, it also shows a group of men in a march carrying tiki torches, saying that Prop. 16 is “opposed by those who have always opposed equality.”The search of the video used showed the men carrying tiki torches is not from California, but from a white supremacist rally in 2017 in Charlottesville, Virginia.“The implication… is that all of those who oppose Proposition 16 are racist or are women haters and that is certainly an opinion, but it is certainly not a verifiable fact,” Eaton said.Mahmuod said Prop. 16 would not establish racial quotas, which was ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. 2520
