A canceled chase in Akron, Ohio ended in a two-car crash with both drivers being arrested on warrants, according to police.Police said the crash happened around 1:45 a.m. Wednesday at an intersection.Police said they got behind a red Hyundai that was stolen and tried to pull the driver over when he took off. The driver reached speeds of around 80 mph when a supervisor canceled the chase. Police said the driver continued to accelerate and 30 seconds later they found the car crashed. The Hyundai hit a minivan and then a pole, a fire hydrant, another pole, before eventually coming to rest next door to an Akron fire station. The Hyundai was shredded in the crash leaving its trunk lid in a parking lot, part of its door wrapped around a traffic light pole and a wheel a hundred feet away.The driver of the stolen Hyundai had warrants and will be taken to jail after he is released from the hospital with what police say are minor injuries.The driver of the minivan was also a wanted felon and he will also be arrested after he is released from the hospital with what police say were minor injuries.  1131

A Las Vegas family watched in horror from a Florida hotel room as their home was broken into Friday.From 2,000 miles away, Kenneth Kochman woke up to a heart-stopping notification on his phone."We got our Ring camera system up and we actually saw these guys burglarize our home live," says Kochman.From their hotel room in Orlando, Kenneth and his fiancée Melinda Piccirilli watched in disbelief as two men walked around the backyard of their home.The video clearly shows one of the burglars using a rod to knock down the surveillance camera just before breaking in.The family was concerned that the crooks were inside and may have harmed their three Chihuahuas."I knew they were trapped in a little area so if they wanted to get them or take them, or [possibly] get mad at them, take them or hurt them; you don't know what people are going to do," Piccirilli said.The two got back to Las Vegas on Sunday – thankful to find their dogs unharmed. Melinda immediately jumped on social media to spread the word of what happened.Her Facebook post quickly went viral in her Las Vegas community."Last night it was 40,000 views and just a few minutes ago it was 65,000 views," says Piccirilli.Melinda said the response online from folks in Summerlin, a subsection of Las Vegas, truly shows how a community can come together."The community is all here with us and wants to help us find who these people were," says Piccirilli. A Cuyahoga County (Ohio) Sheriff's Department employee was on the job when he overdosed in the parking lot of a Brooklyn IHOP in March.Paul Grivas has a badge with the sheriff's department where he works as a process server — someone who serves warrants and subpoenas. He was in his marked sheriff's department vehicle when someone noticed him slumped over at the wheel and dialed 911."It was definitely a different situation dealing with somebody that's in the same line of work we are," Officer Joe Bugaj with the Brooklyn Police Department said.Police officers found several subpoenas he was in the process of serving in the back seat. They also found the badge he was carrying.When Brooklyn first responders arrived at the scene, they immediately recognized he was overdosing and unresponsive.Grivas was given several doses of Naloxone, the antidote for heroin. Police say when he woke up he was extremely combative. "He was flailing his arms, kicking his legs, and one of the medics ended up getting kicked in the head," Bugaj said.He kneed a fireman so hard, the fireman suffered a mild concussion. Officials say he is doing okay.Bugaj said it's not uncommon for people to wake up from an overdose and be aggravated. He said it's something first responders have to keep in mind. "You never know what could happen, whether or not they're going to be upset, because we are basically taking that high away from them," Bugaj said.When asked if there is anything first responders can do to protect themselves, Bugaj said it's just part of the job."It's our job. It's what we signed up to do. A child in Galion, Ohio tested positive for meth on Sunday, just hours after trick or treating in the small town located between Columbus and Cleveland, WBNS-TV reported. According to the Galion Police, the boy is expected to make a full recovery after suffering a seizure. The boy reportedly was sickened after playing with fake teeth that were given to him while trick or treating. The boy's father reportedly said that the boy only had a few pieces of candy before getting sick. The Galion Police has not confirmed how the boy became sick from meth, and an investigation is underway. In the meantime, the police department has issued a warning to its residents. "We encourage parents to thoroughly check any candy your children may have received before they eat it," the Galion Police Department said. An expert on Halloween sadism, Joel Best, has previously said that intentional tainting of trick or treat candy is generally rare.“There is this fear out there, and it is terribly overblown,” Best said. “They are worried that some maniac will hand them a contaminated treat, and I can’t find any evidence that has ever resulted to a death or serious injury.” 1201

A black bear was spotted wandering through backyards in Brecksville, Ohio on Tuesday night, and it seems to be a little hungry.Officers said the bear bent a fence to get into a beehive within the fenced area.Police said the bear was sighted in the 9000 block of Highland Road, east of I-77 and south of State Route 82. This area has deep wooded lots, according to officials.The animal warden was out checking the area with officers and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources will be contacted in the morning, according to police. 564
