As fears are growing over a new strain of the coronavirus spreading through the United Kingdom, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo criticized federal officials for not banning all flights from the UK.While international travel is severely curtailed due to the pandemic, a small number of flights make their way from the UK to the US on a daily basis."We have about six flights a day coming in from the U.K. and we have done absolutely nothing,” Cuomo said. “To me this is reprehensible because this is what happened in the spring. Coronavirus is in China. No it wasn't, it's in Europe. It came from Europe and we did nothing."In response on Monday, Cuomo said that British Airlines and Delta agreed to test passengers for the coronavirus for all flights originating from the UK landing in New York. Still, Cuomo says, these measures aren't enough.The United Kingdom has implemented some of its strongest lockdowns since the onset of the pandemic in recent days. While not much is known about the mutated strain of the virus, it is believed to spread more easily.The new virus strain prompted Canada to block all incoming flights from the UK. France has also closed off travel from the UK."To our international friends and partners, I want to say very frankly that we understand your concerns and I hope everybody can see that as soon as we were briefed in UK government on the the fast transmissibility of this new strain, that I think 3:15 on Friday afternoon, we lodged all the necessary information with the World Health Organization and we took prompt and decisive action the very next day to curb the spread of the new variant," UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said.Cuomo said that the US should add itself to the list of countries banning travel from the UK."Right now, this variant in the U.K. is getting on a plane and flying to JFK. Right now today,” Cuomo said. “One-hundred twenty countries require a test. We don't. Other European countries have done a ban. We haven't. And today that variant is getting on a plane and landing at JFK. How many times in life do you have to make the same mistake before you learn. Be one of the 120 countries that requires a test before you get on a plane to come to the U.S. This is the mistake we made."The US State Department has not updated its UK travel advisory since August. An intoxicated Mansfield woman was arrested on Saturday after making lewd comments to the Easter Bunny.Ladonna Hughett, 54, was arrested at Richland Carrousel Park in Mansfield, Ohio.Witnesses told police the woman made several lewd comments while taking a photograph with the Easter Bunny and appeared to be intoxicated. Afterward, Hughett went for a ride on the carrousel.Police said Hughett appeared to be under the influence when they arrived. She was charged with drunkenness and taken to Richland County Jail. American broadcaster Hugh Downs has died at the age of 99. The Downs family says Hugh died peacefully on Wednesday at his Scottsdale, Arizona home and was surrounded by family. Downs was born in Akron, Ohio on February 14, 1921.He had a career which spanned more than 60 years. Notably, Downs was a co-host on NBC's Today from 1962-1971, later he hosted 20/20 on ABC from 1978-1999 and announced for Tonight Starring Jack Paar.He also hosted the game show Concentration from 1958-1969. An international flight from Dubai to Amsterdam had to make an emergency landing last week on a Transavia Airlines flight after a fight broke out due to a passenger's flatulence, according to the Dutch De Telegraph.According to the report, two sisters complained about a man passing gas on board of the flight. When the Transavia Airlines crew failed to do anything about the flatulence, that is when the passengers allegedly got physical. Nora Lachhab, 25, and her sister, were forced off the plane by police in Vienna for allegedly getting physical with other passengers. Lachhab told De Telegraph that the allegations are untrue. "The strange thing is that we also had to leave the aircraft. While we did not know these guys at all. We happened to be in the same row, but did not do anything to justify the bizarre behavior of the Transavia crew,"Lachhab told De Telegraaf.According to De Telegraaf, four passengers, including those accused of passing gas, were barred from flying on Transavia Airlines. "That is unacceptable. Our crew must ensure a safe flight," an airline spokesperson told De Telegraaf. "When passengers pose risks, they immediately intervene. Our people are trained for that. They know very well where the boundaries are. Transavia is therefore square behind the cabin crew and the pilots."An unidentified passenger told De Telegraaf that Transavia Airlines' response was an over reaction. 1541
