BEIJING, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Jia Qinglin, Li Changchun and Zhou Yongkang, members of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, visited a large-scale theme exhibition, "Tibet, the Past and the Present," on Wednesday.     During their separate visits, they were shown around the 160 material exhibits and more than 400 pictures. The exhibition is being held in two halls of the Nationalities Cultural Palace. Li Changchun, member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, visits a large-scale theme exhibition, "Tibet, the Past and the Present," on Wednesday.Li, who is responsible for the Party's ideological work, said the exhibition exposes the darkness, cruelty and backwardness of Old Tibet and the hypocritical face of the ** Lama as a "human rights guardian," "missionary of peace" and "spiritual leader."     The historic materials show that Tibet has been an inseparable part of China since ancient times, as the Chinese central government has exercised effective sovereign rule over Tibet, said Zhou, the secretary of the CPC Central Committee for Political and Legislative Affairs. BEIJING, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and other senior leaders took part in a voluntary tree planting activity at the Olympic Forest Park here on Saturday.     China's top legislator Wu Bangguo, Premier Wen Jiabao, top political advisor Jia Qinglin, as well as Li Changchun, Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, He Guoqiang, and Zhou Yongkang also planted trees at the park next to the national stadium, the main venue of the Beijing Olympic Games.     Covering some 680 hectares in the north of Beijing, the park is a major part of the 2008 Olympics infrastructure, which is expected to improve the city's environment and air quality.     Hu said during the activity that the Beijing Olympics and Paralympics are approaching. BEIJING, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- The financial crisis and other major issues challenging the world will be discussed in the upcoming summit of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), according to Liu Jieyi, China's assistant foreign minister.     "The ASEM summit would be convened under the special international circumstance," said Liu at a press conference here on Tuesday.     He added the financial situation was in turbulence and the three major challenges, including food safety, climate change and energy issues, were interwoven.     Under the theme of dialogue, cooperation, mutual benefit and common prosperity, the summit would touch upon these issues.     The seventh ASEM summit will be held in Beijing from Oct. 24 to25. At present, most foreign members had confirmed their attendance.     Liu said all members would focus on disaster-relief cooperation, the promotion of trade and investment, sustainable development and strengthening dialogue.     Chinese President Hu Jintao will attend the meeting and Premier Wen Jiabao will preside over the meetings and a welcoming banquet.     Leaders from four coordinators, including China, the EU commission, Brunei and France, would hold a joint press conference after the summit, Liu said, adding several bilateral meetings would also be held.     "A chairman's statement is expected to be passed to reflect all members' stance on the major issues, outlining the key areas of cooperation in the future."     Other documents will also be passed to improve the substantial cooperation on three major areas, including political, economic cooperation as well as social and cultural exchange.     "This is another important event for China after the Beijing Olympic Games," Liu said.     The 45-member ASEM, established in 1996, is a high-level forum between governments of Asia and Europe. BEIJING, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- An executive meeting of the State Council (cabinet), presided over by Premier Wen Jiabao, on Wednesday decided to launch national comprehensive tests of dairy products and reform the dairy industry.     According to the meeting, the incident involving the tainted Sanlu milk powder reflected chaotic industry conditions, as well as loopholes in the supervision and management of the industry.     It is necessary to learn lessons, properly deal with the incident, improve the inspection and supervision system and strengthen the management of the dairy industry, the meeting said.     The meeting also reached six other decisions and ordered governments at all levels to implement them. These decisions include: Saleswomen check the returned Sanlu brand milk powders in a supermarket in Yinchuan, capital of northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region Sept. 17, 2008.providing the best and free medical care to those sickened by melamine-contaminated milk powder,     -- confiscating and destroying all sub-standard products,     -- strictly supervising the production of dairy companies with on-site inspectors,     -- revising regulations on the supervision and management of the industry,     -- subsidizing dairy farmers and encouraging more production by those enterprises with higher-quality products and,     -- finding the cause of the incident and punishing those responsible.     The Sanlu Group, a leading Chinese dairy producer based in the northern Hebei Province, admitted last week that it had found some of its baby milk powder products were contaminated with melamine, a chemical raw material. It issued an immediate recall of milk formula made before Aug. 6.     Three infants have died so far. There are at least 6,244 infant victims of the contaminated milk powder, of whom 158, or 2.5 percent, have acute kidney failure, the Ministry of Health said on Wednesday.
