SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – The owners of a Webster-area restaurant that has been broken into in recent days decided to set up their own overnight sting operation, and their plan led to two arrests.At around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, the owners of Trevi Ristorante on 4703 Federal Blvd., put together their own stakeout and waited for anyone who would try to break into the business.The restaurant had been burglarized three times in the past week, including one incident in which a safe was taken. Jonathan Romero, the owners’s son, told ABC 10News, “We’re tired of it.”While the owner remained on the roof, his son waited across the street and a family friend watched from behind the eatery.After several hours, they noticed an SUV park in an alley behind the restaurant and two men get out of the vehicle.As the family observed the two people go through gates to the restaurant’s back doors, the owner’s son called 911.San Diego police officers arrived at the scene and took one of the would-be burglars into custody.However, the other man climbed up the side of the building and ran across the roof. After jumping from the roof down to the front parking lot, the man ran away as officers pursued him.The man was able to cross Federal Boulevard, but officers deployed a stun gun and subdued him.The stunned man was treated at the scene for his injuries and is expected to be OK. 1373

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The South Park neighborhood has a new ornament for the holiday season, which residents hope will become a permanent addition.The South Park Business Group recently installed a new sign of the community's name on top of a building at the end of Fern Street."It gives people a little more of a talking point," says Tanya McAnear, who owns Bad Madge and Company nearby. "Having a branded neighborhood helps when you're on social media."The sign is part of this year's Holiday Walkabout Luminaria event on December 7. But people in the neighborhood hope the business group keeps it up as a permanent addition."I'd like to see it stay for a long time," says Wayne Prunkard, who has lived in South Park for 20 years. "It gives an atmosphere to the neighborhood, and I really like it."People in South Park have been clamoring for a sign like this for years, one that can help identify the area in the same way signs in University Heights, Normal Park, North Park, Hillcrest, Kensington, Barrio Logan, and Gaslamp do.The South Park Business Group paid for the sign. Organizers say they're looking into a way to make it permanent."It makes you stand out. It makes you unique," says Grace Gerber, the manager of Native Poppy. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego International Auto Show announced Wednesday that its 2020 lineup was cancelled.The show was set to take place from December 31 through January 3.“After careful and extensive consideration of the health risks and other factors resulting from COVID-19, the New Car Dealers Association San Diego County will be unable to hold and unfortunately must cancel the San Diego International Auto Show,” the New Car Dealers Association of San Diego County said.The next event is scheduled to take place from December 30, 2021 through January 2, 2022.“As much as we wanted to move forward with the show for all of those who eagerly anticipate it each year, the outbreak of COVID-19 and the pandemic has resulted in a situation where we are unable to hold the show. Of course, the health and safety of all of the workers, exhibitors and attendees who make the auto show such a special event are of vital importance,” said Dean Mansfield, president of the New Car Dealers Association San Diego County, which owns and produces the San Diego International Auto Show. “And given the incredible amount of planning exhibitors must do long in advance of an event of this size and the expenses incurred by all parties, we have endeavored to provide notice of cancellation as soon as reasonably possible,” continued Mansfield. 1346

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The San Diego County Fair is a place of sights and sounds, which could deter some families with adults and children with autism, PTSD, and other sensory-sensitive conditions to pass on the yearly festival.To help provide those families with the same fun at the fair, organizers will offer sensory stations and free sensory toolkits, containing noise-canceling headphones, fidgets, weighted lap pads, and other tools.Fair organizers teamed with KultureCity, which has implemented sensory-inclusion programs at public venues around the country, including for the NFL and NBA. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Starlight Bowl in Balboa Park is facing a setback after thieves broke into the theater.According to San Diego Police, an unknown suspect or suspects forced their way into the building between Oct. 17 and 19. The thieves ransacked two separate, secured structures on the property.A number of high-end television production systems, autographed guitars, studio cameras, and other items were stolen. “The doors were physically broken down,” said Steve Stopper, founder of Save Starlight. “There’s been a lot of vandalism and theft and they had to have been here a long, long time.”Stopper said his foundation has been working for five years to bring life back to the theater that closed down in 2012. The City of San Diego has offered support to his organization.Repairs were being completed after a tree came crashing down on the Starlight Bowl months ago, lifting asphalt in the parking lot and crushing part of the building.“This is definitely kicking us back to almost a starting point again,” said Stopper.Security cameras and alarms were turned off as repairs to the building were underway.Stopper said the items stolen were worth well over ,000. Many, including the autographed guitars, were set to be auctioned off at a gala next year in an effort to raise money for the revitalization project.“We need someone to step up and help us,” said Stopper. “We need new options for the future.
