PHOENIX — Three people, including two children, have died after being stabbed near 19th and Glendale avenues Sunday morning.Phoenix police say they are conducting a homicide investigation after they found a 7-year old boy, 9-year-old girl and an 18-year-old woman who had been stabbed to death inside of an apartment. PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — Using animals like dogs and horses for therapy when it comes to PTSD is fairly common, but there is a Vietnam veteran in Pinellas County who is using Birds of Prey.“When I feel worthless they remind me that I have a purpose, they give me a reason to get up even on my bad days,” said Ria Warner.Warner is married to a military veteran and also suffers from her own past trauma. She said when she started bonding with Birds of Prey, like Thunder the Bald Eagle, she felt like she had grown a pair of wings herself.“They help me to identify little things before like an anxiety attack or depression would set in, so they’ll help you find those triggers before they get pulled,” said Warner.Over the past seven years, Patrick Bradley has paired dozens of different species with more than 4,000 military veterans and their families.“The raptors are apex predators, so are soldiers, number two, the raptors were hurt, so were soldiers, so they bonded quicker,” said Bradley.All of the birds come from wildlife rehabilitation organizations. Their injuries deemed too severe to be released back into the wild.“We don’t hand veterans right from the wild our animals, these birds have been vetted by us,” said Bradley.Bradley credits the bald eagle for saving his own life after returning from Vietnam. OTAY MESA, Calif. (KGTV) - A vintage biplane had an emergency at a South Bay airport Tuesday, sending it skidding off the runway and onto its nose. The incident with the single-engine Stearman plane was reported at Brown Field Municipal Airport, 1424 Continental St. The pilot and one passenger were on board but escaped without injury, San Diego Fire-Rescue Chief Colin Stowell reported on twitter. The plane had minor damage. Stowell tweeted that the FAA and NTSB were notified about the crash to investigate its cause. City News Service contributed to this report. 575

POINT LOMA, Calif. (KGTV) — Some residents in Point Loma are frustrated that they are being forced to remove their family-owned docks off Shelter Island. The mandate is part of the Port of San Diego's new Port Master Plan. Cameron Driscoll Lilley says her family's dock near Scott St and Bessemer Street is more than just an heirloom, it's significant piece of history in the community."This dock was put in by my great grandfather in 1943, and it was completed in 1944," Lilley said. Since then, her family has shared their dock with the public from sunrise to sunset. The deepest end portion of the pier is locked for safety reasons. She said this is an expensive endeavor but well worth the smiles it provides to visitors. "The insurance, maintenance, the upkeep, and the liability that we are exposed to. But it's worth it because it provides an opportunity for people in this community and beyond to interact with the waterfront in a way that they wouldn't get to do," Lilley said. Lilley said there are people from all over San Diego who enjoy walking on their dock to watch the fish and stingrays swim under their feet. But the Port of San Diego says their dock is not technically docked on their residential land, and because of that, it must come down. "They want to tear out a piece of our historical landscape," Lilley said. According to the California Coastal Commission rules, it cannot allow residential uses on land the agency governs. Lilley's only other choice is to make the dock available for the public 24/7. But she sees that as a safety hazard."The most tragic thing would be if somebody was out on the end and fell and or drowned or got hurt in a boating accident off of the pier," Lilley said.The Master Plan has no mention of hiring lifeguards if it becomes public."I think they are driving an agenda of tourism and revenue and of course San Diego needs that. But I am disappointed that the Port Master Plan hasn't prioritized the residents of this neighborhood," Lilley said. The Port of San Diego is welcoming all comments at their next Community Discussion. PARKLAND, Florida — As students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School return from spring break, they will face several new security changes at the school.On Monday, students will receive clear backpacks for free, and the superintendent says those will be the only backpacks allowed on campus.The thousands of students at the school will also now wear a school identification badge everywhere on campus.This comes after the deadly school shooting in February that killed 17 people, but also after a series of incidents the week leading up to spring break.Two students were charged with bringing weapons on campus, and a third made a threat on social media.Deputies also arrested the confessed shooter’s brother for trespassing on the school property. Zachary Cruz pleaded no contest Thursday and sentenced to time served and six months of probation.A Broward County sheriff’s deputy was also suspended for allegedly sleeping in his patrol car while on duty at the school.Florida Highway Patrol will also have eight troopers stationed at the school entrances. The Broward County School district is providing additional security as well.This district will also consider metal detectors, metal detector wands, and trying to consolidate the point of entry for students and staff.The memorial that honored their classmates for the past six weeks is no longer there.
