The FBI held an unforeseen news conference on Wednesday to say that Iran and Russia have been leading a misinformation campaign ahead of this year’s election.Although the sudden nature of Wednesday’s news conference made the announcement seem urgent, intelligence community officials have been warning of interference by Iran, China and Russia for months.Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe said that the countries obtained voter registration information, and then used that data to direct misinformation toward voters. Ratcliffe, along with FBI Director Christopher Wray, would not take any questions.Voter registration information is generally public information. Information like voters’ names, addresses and voting history are generally available nationwide. It is unclear if Iran and Russia received information that is publicly available."We have already seen Iran sending spoofed emails designed to intimidate voters,” Ratcliffe said.Ratcliffe claimed that the emails worked to hurt Trump's campaign, but House Democrat Ted Lieu, a member of the Intelligence Committee, questioned how the emails were intended to hurt Trump's campaign. 1164

The first large head-to-head comparison of two opioid addiction medications found that, although they were equally effective in getting people off of high levels of opioids, users had a significantly more difficult time starting a regimen of naltrexone, compared with buprenorphine.Buprenorphine is commonly known by the the brand name Suboxone, and naltrexone is sold under the brand name Vivitrol. The study, published Tuesday in the Lancet, looked at 570 patients with opioid addiction at eight inpatient treatment centers across the country for 24 weeks. Half of the group was assigned to naltrexone and the other half to bupenorphine.Six percent of those enlisted to use buprenorphine were unable to start their treatment, whereas 28% of those assigned to naltrexone dropped out before starting the therapy. 824

The Cambridge Analytica scandal has had a number of serious repercussions for Facebook, its users, and the future of privacy around the world. It also temporarily stopped single people from finding true love on Tinder.Shortly after Facebook announced stricter rules for its third-party developers, popular dating app Tinder stopped working. Singles who tried to get some swiping in on their lunch breaks weren't allowed to log in to the app. A pop-up window said "Tinder requires you to provide additional Facebook permissions in order to create or use a Tinder account." Like many apps, Tinder primarily lets people log in with their Facebook credentials."This was part of the changes that we announced today, and we are working with Tinder to address this issue," a Facebook spokesperson told CNN Tech.Upset Tinder users took to Twitter to vent.Facebook is still recovering from revelations that Cambridge Analytica, a data firm with connections to the Trump campaign, accessed the data of millions of its users. Facebook has been rushing to repair its relationship with users, and prevent any future misuses of data by third-parties.On Wednesday, it announced changes to what personal information apps can collect."We will also no longer allow apps to ask for access to personal information such as religious or political views, relationship status and details, custom friends lists, education and work history, fitness activity, book reading activity, music listening activity, news reading, video watch activity, and games activity," Facebook said in its post.It is unclear exactly which part of Facebook's updates caused the issues with Tinder. The app shows you information about potential paramours like age, location and where they went to school. Other dating apps that use Facebook to login, like Bumble, did not experience outages. After Tinder was fixed, many users said their matches were all missing. After a few hours, those matches appeared to have been restored as well.As off Wednesday afternoon, people were able to use the app and -- if only for a moment -- feel a little less alone in the world. 2123

The COVID-19 pandemic has been forcing millions of Americans to work and learn from home for several months at this point. But while working and learning from home may be routine, that hasn't made it any easier — meetings are still being sabotaged with rambunctious pets, unreliable WiFi signals and barely-clothed family members. Then, there's the dreaded mute button. Failing to click it (or mistakenly turning it off) has sunk many a meeting in the last five months. And apparently, U.S. senators aren't immune to mute-button woes.During the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs' questioning of Postmaster General Louis DeJoy on Friday, Chairman Ron Johnson (R-Wisconsin) recognized Sen. Tom Carper (D-Delware) for questioning. After a few moments, Carper didn't respond, and Johnson moved on to Sen. James Lankford (D-Michigan).Apparently, Carper was at his computer but muted. And when audio was restored to his microphone, it caught the senator frustratingly releasing a series of expletives.Johnson asked if Carper was able to unmute his laptop, adding "we don't want to be on TV again," with a laugh.Following the snafu, Carper was able to conduct his questioning.Later, Carper joked about the incident on Twitter."Those who know me know that there are few things that get me more fired up than protecting the Postal Service! #DontMessWithUSPS," he tweeted. 1396

The CDC is changing their recommendations for travelers, urging them to pay attention to local and state recommendations, and dropping their 14-day quarantine for international or out-of-state travelers. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated their travel requirements Friday, according to multiple media reports. They now advise travelers to "follow state, territorial, tribal and local recommendations or requirements after travel." Previously, the agency recommended a 14-day quarantine for those returning from international destinations or any area with a high concentration of coronavirus cases. The guidelines still urge travelers to limit their risk of infecting others by social distancing and wearing a mask. “You may feel well and not have any symptoms, but you can still spread COVID-19 to others," the CDC states on their website. There are still international travelers who are not allowed to enter the U.S. based on presidential proclamations. Foreign nationals who have spent time in these countries in the last 14 days before travel cannot enter the U.S.: China, Iran, United Kingdom, Ireland, Brazil, and most of Europe. U.S. citizens who travel to these countries can return to the U.S. through 15 airports according to the CDC. 1268
