SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego mother and daughter who both have Type 1 Diabetes are navigating the disease together.Keary and Zola Chaney are among the first to use a new device which sends life-saving alerts to your smartwatch or cell phone.The Dexcom G6 is a small sensor that monitors blood sugar levels 24 hours a day and requires no finger-pricking. The FDA-approved sensor is easy to put on and can be worn for 10 days. "I feel like I have more control and diabetes has less control over me, which is the most freeing feeling in the world," said Keary, Zola's mom. Keary says Dexcom, a San Diego-based company, is not only simplifying their lives but also saving them, especially when their blood sugar levels get low. Keary can monitor both her and Zola's blood glucose levels on her smartphone, even if they're thousands of miles apart. The device will be readily available to consumers in June and is covered by most insurance companies.   1007

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Witness video shows the moment San Diego Police opened fire on a pursuit suspect in Logan Heights Monday.The video starts with the suspect, identified Tuesday as 30-year-old Enrique Aguilar, walking in the middle of the street, it appears toward the direction of police. Yells of "drop the gun" could be heard as Aguilar continues walking down the street.As Aguilar proceeds toward officers, police say he pointed a weapon at officers. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Traffic was blocked Wednesday near the San Diego Superior Court Central Courthouse due to a hazmat investigation. The San Diego Sheriff’s Department confirmed the substance was found in the building at 1100 Union St. about 5 p.m. A court employee said the substance was a white powder found on the 10th floor.Preliminary information from the scene indicates the situation was linked to a letter inside the courthouse, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue. By 6:30 p.m., crews determined the powder was harmless. 537

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — At Fleet Week, the Osprey MV-22 is on display, on the USS Harper's Ferry's flight deck, a controversial aircraft after dozens died during training. Crews say now it's much safer.The unique aircraft transforms from a helicopter to a plane mid-flight. The trouble, four crashes killed 30 people during training missions from 1991-2000."Most every system on that aircraft has a triple redundant system, so that if there is a failure the other two systems pick up the slack," Corporal Tyler Gartin said. "The Osprey was able to land in places that other aircraft were not able to, and carry out a much higher payload than any other helicopter possibly could have.
