SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - One man was injured in a stabbing in Spring Valley Sunday evening, according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department.Deputies said that a man between the ages of 40 and 50 was transported to the hospital after another man stabbed him, and he is expected to survive.The call to the residence near Dale Avenue and S. LAUSD and SDUSD join numerous other school systems taking similar measures as the number of COVID-19 cases continue to rise.Superintendent Austin Beutner of Los Angeles and Superintendent Cindy Marten of San Diego have issued the following joint statement: “California has now entered a critical new phase in the fight to stop the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic,” they said. “There is evidence the virus is already present in the communities we serve, and our efforts now must be aimed at preventing its spread. We believe closing the state’s two largest school districts will make an important contribution to this effort. For that reason, we plan to close, effective Monday, March 16. “Later today, we will be providing students, parents and staff with more information on our plans to continue providing learning opportunities for students during the closure. We have also directed staff at both districts to prepare to continue providing nutrition and other supports through family resource facilities.” The boards of Los Angeles Unified and San Diego Unified School Districts have unanimously approved this action. San Diego Unified plans to reopen schools on April 6th, unless conditions call for an extension. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Officials say more than 80 people are currently being monitored for coronavirus symptoms in San Diego County, as the first flight of quarantine passengers from a cruise ship arrived at MCAS Miramar Tuesday. A group consisting of between 50-60 people arrived at MCAS Miramar just before 10 p.m. Tuesday for a 14-day quarantine. The passengers had been aboard the Grand Princess cruise ship that was brought to Oakland.All passengers have been screened and showed no symptoms, County Public Health Officer Dr. Wilma Wooten said, adding that about 400 more passengers were expected to arrive at Miramar on Wednesday.The cruise ship reported at least 20 people infected with coronavirus aboard the ship, before it was directed to dock in Oakland after spending about a week awaiting orders off California's coast.RELATED: San Diego County woman tests positive for coronavirus following overseas travelAbout 900 California residents who were aboard the ship will be repatriated through MCAS Miramar and Travis Air Force Base in Northern California, according to Wooten. Charles Dockery said the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is leading the local quarantine effort on the base."As with the previous mission, all passengers entering quarantine will have been deemed asymptomatic by health care professionals. Finally, any person that tests positive for COVID-19 will be transferred off-station," Col. Dockery's statement read.San Diego is currently monitoring 73 travelers from China and Iran for coronavirus symptoms, according to the county. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are searching for a driver who reportedly hit two people crossing the street in East Village before running away. According to San Diego Police, the incident happened on the 300 block of 14th Street around 12:20 a.m. Sunday. Police say a 24-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man were crossing 14th street in an unmarked crosswalk when the driver of a Ford Mustang attempted to make a U-turn, lost control and hit the pair. The crash left the woman pinned against the wall with a fractured hip and the man with abrasions, according to police. The driver ran away from the scene on foot and has yet to be located, police say. 658

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are searching for a suspect after a man was shot during a road rage incident in Del Cerro early Sunday morning.According to police, the shooting happened on the 5200 block of Adobe Falls Road at 1 a.m. Sunday.Police say the 57-year-old victim was crossing the street to meet a friend when he was nearly struck by a white, four-door sedan.RELATED: Man continues watching UFC fight after stabbing friend in the Midway DistrictThe victim “exchanged words” with the driver of the vehicle before the man got out of the car and the two fought.The victim was knocked unconscious before a passerby took him to the hospital.
