It seems Americans are returning to air travel, despite another spike in coronavirus cases in the United States. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) says it screened more than 1 million passengers Sunday, the highest number of travelers screened at the agency's checkpoints since March 17, around the time the pandemic hit the U.S.The weekly volume of screenings was also the highest it’s been since the onslaught of the coronavirus, with about 6.1 million passengers screened nationwide last week. The number of fliers remains well below pre-pandemic levels, but TSA says the 1 million single-day passenger volume is a noteworthy development that follows significant TSA checkpoint modifications in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. The agency says it has been deploying acrylic barriers and technologies that reduce or eliminate physical contact between passengers and TSA officers.New credential authentication devices are also being installed at various airport checkpoints, enabling passengers to insert their ID directly into a card reader, eliminating the need for a TSA screening officer to touch the ID.Additionally, many checkpoints now feature computed tomography (CT) scanners, allowing TSA officers to manipulate an image on screen to get a better view of a bag’s contents.“This technology often enables officers to clear items without having to open a carry-on bag,” TSA said. “The new CT scanner further reduces the need for a passenger to remove contents of their bag during the screening process.”TSA has established a “Stay Healthy. Stay Secure.” campaign that it says is designed to prepare travelers for the new procedures they can expect at checkpointsClick here to learn more about how TSA is addressing the coronavirus. As of Monday morning, more than 219,600 people have died from COVID-19 in the U.S. and over 8 million have contracted the coronavirus across the nation, according to an ongoing tally by Johns Hopkins University. 1972

It may be the undercard match in 2020, but the battle for control of the U.S. Senate will not be cheap. Democrats are beginning to post fundraising totals for Q2 and numbers show that despite the pandemic, donating to Democratic politicians isn't appearing to take a hit. For example, in Montana, Former Democratic Gov. Steve Bullock announced he has raised .7 million to defeat Republican Sen. Steve Daines, who is also expected to raise millions. Montana is shaping up to be a crucial state for Democrats. Currently, Republicans control 53 seats in the United States Senate. It is looking more likely a Republican will win the Senate race in Alabama which means Republicans will have 54 seats. But they must also defend seats in states like Montana, Colorado, Arizona, North Carolina, Georgia and Maine. Democrats believe it is possible to win five of those races, giving Democrats control. Democrats would also gain control the Senate if they win four of those races and Joe Biden wins the presidency, since the vice oresident casts tie-breaking votes. MONEY TALKS The biggest sign yet that Democrats are focused heavily on the Senate is the race in South Carolina. Trump ally Sen. Lindsey Graham is up for reelection and his race is generally not seen as a competitive, yet Jaime Harrison, Graham's Democratic challenger, announced he has raised over million. While much focus is being placed on Democrats, Republicans are expected to match Democratic numbers when it is all said and done. Many Republican Senators have worked for years to maintain a "campaign warchest" predicting strong numbers from the Democratic Party. For instance in Colorado, Republican Sen. Cory Gardner is estimated to have over million dollars worth of "cash on hand" available to defend his seat. 1799

INDIANAPOLIS — Gov. Eric Holcomb is concerned about teenage homegrown violent extremists in Indiana schools, according to a Nov. 17 Indiana Department of Homeland Security report. WRTV obtained the document through two separate sources.Teenage Homegrown Violent ExtremistsThe nine-page document describes three threats to Indiana schools – active shooters, cyber threats and teenage homegrown violent extremists. Homegrown violent extremists are defined by the FBI as "global-jihad-inspired individuals who are based in the U.S., have been radicalized primarily in the U.S., and are not directly collaborating with a foreign terrorist organization."The first two threats are real concerns for police departments and schools across the state, according to multiple high-ranking law enforcement sources who are regularly briefed on local and national intelligence regarding threats. The actual threat of a teenage homegrown violent extremist attacking a school is low, the sources tell WRTV. They say listing it as one of the top three threats is not accurate. The sources spoke to WRTV on the condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak to the media. "The Governor of Indiana, IDHS, the FBI and the NCTC remain concerned about the potential for teenage HVE’s to conduct attacks inside the state or violence targeting a school with little to no warning," the report states. "IDHS continues to urge vigilance and to report suspicious activities to law enforcement."As the report states, Indiana did see an 18-year-old Brownsburg, Indiana man get arrested while allegedly trying to join ISIS, but there was never a threat to the high school he attended or any other schools in the country. The FBI declined to comment for this story.Questions Raised about ReportThe report was part of a briefing sent to emergency managers and police departments across the state. It quotes not only Holcomb, but other state agencies, such as the Fusion Intelligence Center, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the FBI. But some agencies never knew the report was being put together. The IDHS never consulted the agencies before sending out the report, even though they were quoted, WRTV has learned.Asked about the document and the quotes, IDHS Executive Director Bryan Langley, who is also listed as the author of the report, released a statement, saying in part: 2420
