BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- China and the United States on Tuesday called on Iran to "engage constructively" with the P5+1 and to "cooperate fully" with the IAEA to facilitate a satisfactory outcome.     The call was made in a joint statement issued here after talks between Chinese President Hu Jintao and visiting U.S. President Barack Obama.     The two sides reaffirmed their strong support for a comprehensive and long-term solution to the Iranian nuclear issue through negotiations.     "The two sides agreed that Iran has the right to peaceful uses of nuclear energy under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and it should fulfill its due international obligations under that treaty," said the statement.     The two sides welcomed the talks in Geneva on Oct. 1 between the P5+1 (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) and Iran as "a promising start" towards addressing international concerns about Iran's nuclear program, and expressed their readiness to continue that engagement as soon as possible.     They emphasized in the joint statement that all efforts should be made to take confidence building steps and to call on Iran to respond positively to the proposal of the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). 

VICTORIA, Seychelles, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Zhou Yongkang, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), has met leaders of the Seychelles on bilateral relations. Zhou, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, was welcomed Thursday evening at the airport by the general secretary of the People's Party of the Seychelles, Danny Faure, who is also finance minister. The CPC is willing to enhance exchanges and cooperation with the People's Party of the Seychelles to further strengthen the political basis of the bilateral relationship, said the senior CPC official.     The CPC and the Chinese government are also willing to boost cooperation with African countries, including the Seychelles, in meeting the challenges of the international financial crisis, said Zhou.     Faure said China has always treated the Seychelles, a small country, on an equal footing, adding that the two nations, the two peoples and the ruling parties of both countries have maintained friendly relations, which could be regarded as a model for relations between big and small countries.     The People's Party hopes to promote exchanges with the CPC on the experience of governance, said Faure.     When meeting with Vice President Joseph Belmont on Friday, Zhou said the relations between China and the Seychelles have witnessed a sustained healthy and steady development since the two countries established diplomatic ties 33 years ago.     With the smooth implementation of China's eight measures regarding cooperation with Africa, proposed by Chinese President Hu Jintao in 2006, China and the Seychelles have seen increased exchanges of high-level visits, deepened traditional friendship and expanded cooperation, Zhou said.     The Chinese government announced eight new measures to enhance cooperation with Africa earlier this month, and China is willing to jointly implement these measures with the Seychelles so as to bring more benefits to the Africans, including the Seychelles people, he said.     The senior CPC official also expressed appreciation for the support of the People's Party and the Seychelles government on the Taiwan and human rights issues.     Belmont said the Seychelles people have benefited extensively from China-Africa cooperation, adding that the Seychelles welcomed China's new measures on its cooperation with Africa and would implement them in a timely manner.     While expressing the hope for enhanced cooperation in tourism, the Seychelles vice president also expected more investment from Chinese companies in the country's tourism sector.     Zhou arrived here Thursday for a technical stopover after concluding visits to Sudan and South Africa.

BEIJING, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- More than 45 million people from both home and abroad have visited Tian'anmen Rostrum, a landmark structure in the heart of Chinese capital, in the past 21 years after it was opened to the public.     "In 2009 alone, the rostrum received more than 2.16 million visitors," said Lin Bingkui, of the rostrum administration department.     The rostrum, or the Gate of Heavenly Peace built in 1417, stands to the north of Tian'anmen Square and south of the renowned Forbidden City, the Chinese imperial palace from the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) to the end of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912).     It was on the Tian'anmen Rostrum where Chairman Mao Zedong formally proclaimed the founding of the People's Republic of China on Oct. 1, 1949.     The rostrum was opened to the public for the first time on Jan.1, 1988.     Thousands of tourists use the rostrum as a background while taking photos every day.

SHANGHAI, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- President Barack Obama said here on Monday the United States would continue to fully support the one-China policy, and would be very pleased to see the improving cross-strait relationship.    "I have been clear in the past the United States supports a one-China policy. We do not want change that policy or approach," he said during a dialogue with Chinese youth in the nation's economic hub Shanghai.     "I am very pleased with the reduction of tensions and improvement of the cross-strait relations," he said. CAIRO, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived here Friday, starting a two-day official visit to Egypt preceding a top-level review of action to build China-Africa cooperation.     Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Nazef received Wen at the airport.     During his visit, Wen is scheduled to meet with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and hold talks with Nazef. He will also meet with Arab League chief Amr Mussa, and deliver a speech at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo.     This is Wen's second official visit to Egypt. The first was in 2006, which marked the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomaticties between China and Egypt. Visiting Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao is greeted during a welcoming ceremony in Cairo, capital of Egypt, Nov. 6, 2009After his official visit to Egypt, Wen will attend the opening ceremony of the fourth ministerial meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh on Sunday.     Wen will also hold bilateral meetings with leaders of FOCAC member countries at Sharm el-Sheikh.     The FOCAC meeting, an important gathering after the Beijing Summit of the forum in November 2006, will review how the consensus of the Beijing Summit has been implemented.     It is also expected to adopt a declaration and an action plan for 2010-2012 to chart the path for further China-Africa cooperation.     Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and Commerce Minister Chen Deming, as well as other senior officials, are accompanying Wen.
