Morris, 56, who pleaded guilty in March to one count of embezzlement of government property, was also ordered by U.S. District Judge Larry Burns to pay 8,000 in restitution."Lynn Morris capitalized on her position at the FBI to line her own pockets with stolen government funds," said Assistant Attorney General Brian A. Benczkowski of the Justice Department's Criminal Division. "This conviction demonstrates the Department of Justice's commitment to investigating and prosecuting government employees who abuse their authority. Individuals who violate the public trust will be held accountable."Between July 2014 and November 2016, Morris embezzled 9,821 that belonged to the United States and converted the funds for her own personal use, according to documents submitted in connection with her plea.The funds were in an account owned by the FBI San Diego Division's Asset Forfeiture Unit, where Morris was a paralegal specialist and the AFU's designated coordinator.The court found that Morris also embezzled ,010 from an additional AFU account and stole ,351 from FBI evidence rooms.Morris admitted that to convert government funds to her own use, she used her knowledge and position within the FBI to withdraw cash from the AFU's account undetected and deposited portions of the stolen proceeds into her personal checking account. 1545

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A drunken driver who crashed into a Lyft vehicle at high speed on state Route 163 in Balboa Park -- killing one passenger and injuring the other two occupants -- pleaded guilty Wednesday to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI causing injury. Alondra Selena Marquez, 22, of San Diego, faces up to 13 years and four months in prison, with sentencing slated for Sept. 24 at the downtown San Diego courthouse. Prosecutors say Marquez had a .25 percent blood alcohol content -- more than three times the legal limit -- at the time of the March 23 crash that killed San Francisco resident Giao Pham. The other passenger -- Pham's friend, Andy Lynn -- was hospitalized with a traumatic brain injury, which still affects him to this day, the prosecutor said. SAN DIEGO (AP and KGTV) -- Washing Senators are remembering John McCain's momentous vote against a Republican effort to repeal the Obama-era health law. Of those remembering McCain is Sen Susan Collins, who told CNN's "State of the Union" that she and GOP colleague Lisa Murkowski of Alaska — both repeal opponents — spoke to McCain before the July 2017 vote because they knew he was struggling with the decision.Collins says he pointed to them and simply said, "You two are right!"Vice President Mike Pence was waiting to speak with McCain next, Collins says, but she knew McCain's "no" decision would stick. Collins said, "Once John McCain made up his mind about something, there was no shaking him."McCain would later famously hold up his hand and vote no, ending the measure.
