BEIJING, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Tropical storm "Dianmu" along with gusty winds will strengthen precipitation in north China as it moves north, the national meteorological agency warned on Monday.The typhoon, started Sunday night in the sea about 400 kilometers east of Taiwan, is expected to complicate flood-control efforts in northeast China, where torrential rain-triggered floods have left more than 100 people dead and missing.Heavy rains will hit parts of northeast China's Liaoning, Jilin and Heilongjiang provinces on Tuesday. Northwest China's Gansu and Shaanxi provinces will also be affected, said the National Meteorological Center.The typhoon, the fourth this year, was moving northeast at a speed of 25 km per hour. Its center was located about 390 km east of Zhejiang Province's coast Monday afternoon and will approach southern coast of the Korean Peninsula on Tuesday, said the center.

HAIKOU, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Typhoon Conson landed at Yalong Bay of Sanya City, in south China's island province of Hainan, late Friday, causing casualties.Conson made landfall at 7:50 p.m., packing winds of up to 126 km per hour at the center, according to the disaster prevention office of Sanya, a tourist resort.It brought heavy rains and strong winds to Sanya, uprooting trees, pulling down billboards and light poles and partly cutting power supply.A security guard was buried in debris after a giant billboard toppled at about 7:26 p.m.. The man was found dead at about 11 p.m. after rescuers pulled away the billboard with the help of machines.A motorcycle rider was hit by a falling billboard and died at the site at about 8 p.m..The typhoon is expected to hover in the island for about 9 hours before it enters Beibu Bay on Saturday morning.The city had recalled to port all fishing boats by Friday noon and almost 40,000 people across the island had been relocated by 4:30 p.m..The typhoon, the first to hit China this year, has triggered high waves and cut some village roads.

MANILA, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- The Philippine government's high- level delegation to Beijing and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to brief the Chinese side the hijack crisis was postponed and would be reset soon, senior government official said Thursday.Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda, quoting the Department of Foreign Affairs as telling reporters that the Philippine government is "awaiting for the confirmation of the Chinese side on the arrangement that will ensure that the mission of the planned visit is achieved."He added that appropriate announcement will be made when the visit will take place.Earlier, Philippine authorities said the high-level delegation composed of Vice-President Jejomar Binay, Department of Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo and Lacierda were supposed to leave for Beijing on Thursday and then proceed to Hong Kong on Friday.The officials will personally deliver President Benigno Aquino III's messages when meeting with Chinese leaders in Beijing and Hong Kong.The hostage crisis in Manila, involving a 21-member Hong Kong tour group, ended on Monday night with eight hostages killed and several others injured. The dismissed Filipino police officer, who hijacked the tour bus, was also killed during the police assault.President Bengigno Aquino has said the Monday's hostage-taking drama was "ghastly" and admitted there were "many failures". Aquino and other officials have promised a full investigation. Interior Secretary Jessie Robredo, who is in charge of the national police, has acknowledged there were problems with how the crisis was handled, including inadequacies in preparation, equipment and training.Residents in Hong Kong expressed outrage at the Philippine government's handling of the day-long bus siege. BEIJING, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping met with Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino here Friday, the two vowing to increase bilateral cooperation and party-to-party exchange.Xi hailed the smooth development of China-Ecuador ties over recent years, citing frequent high-level exchanges and enhanced political trust.The Chinese government highly values its relations with Ecuador, he said, adding that strengthening bilateral ties is in the common interest of both nations and peoples."We hope to take the opportunity of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties this year to expand cooperation with Ecuador to push bilateral relations to a new stage," Xi said.He also urged more exchanges between the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the ruling party of Ecuador.Patino extended his condolences to the family members of the victims of the mudslides in northwest China's Gansu Province.He also said Ecuador hopes to cement cooperation with China in political, trade and cultural areas.Patino is visiting China from Aug. 10 to Aug. 16 at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart, Yang Jiechi.In talks with Patino earlier Friday, Yang said China and Ecuador maintained good coordination in international affairs.
