(KGTV) — An Idaho school district is investigating a school's teachers and staff after photos surfaced on social media showing them dressed as a border wall.Photos posted to Facebook showed teachers from Middleton Heights Elementary School dressed holding cardboard painted to look like a border wall, with the phrase "Make America Great Again."In another photo, staffers dressed in sombreros, ponchos, and fake mustaches.RELATED: Olympian Shaun White apologizes for offensive Halloween costumeBoth photos, posted to Middleton Heights's Facebook page, drew scorn online, forcing the school to remove the pictures, according to KTVB.Superintendent Josh Middleton posted a video to Facebook apologizing to parents and expressing his disappointment."I was shown those photos and [was] deeply troubled by the decision by our staff members to wear those costumes that are clearly insensitive and inappropriate," Middleton said. "We are better than this. We embrace all students. We have a responsibility to teach and reach all students, period."Our time right now is going to be devoted to investigating those events and those poor decisions that were made," Middleton added. It's unclear what type of disciplinary actions the teachers and staff face. Those in the pictures were publicly identified.Police patrols were increased at the school Friday for safety, KTVB reported. About 9.5 percent of Middleton's 7,400 population is Hispanic or Latino, according to U.S. Census data. 1507

(CNN) - President Donald Trump made his first visit to a war zone on Wednesday, receiving an enthusiastic reception from many US troops there -- some of whom may have run afoul of military rules.Video footage and the written report of Trump's visit with service members in Iraq showed the President signing "Make America Great Again" hats and an embroidered patch that read "Trump 2020."A US military official told CNN the MAGA hats that Trump signed at the Ramstein Air Base event in Germany were personal and brought there by military personnel in hopes of getting an autograph. The official contended that it was not a campaign event and that the hats were used as support for Trump, not as a statement of political support.Although the event was not an official Trump re-election campaign event, the President did declare his candidacy for re-election in 2020 soon after his inauguration.White House press secretary Sarah Sanders told CNN the hats were personal items brought by the troops in Iraq and Germany. Sanders said the White House did not distribute them.Department of Defense guidelines say that "active duty personnel may not engage in partisan political activities and all military personnel should avoid the inference that their political activities imply or appear to imply DoD sponsorship, approval, or endorsement of a political candidate, campaign, or cause."The questions arose because the hats, emblazoned with the President's signature political slogan, appeared to be brand new and because there are rules against military personnel participating in political activities while in uniform. No policy violations have been brought to the military's attention at this time, said Capt. Christopher Bowyer-Meeder, a spokesperson for the US Air Force, Europe. He added there is no rule against Airmen bringing personal items to be signed by the president. The Defense Department guidelines have the same intent as mirror the Hatch Act restrictions on political activities for civilian federal officials. In the Trump Era, officials have deemed hashtags and hats potential rule violations. Earlier this year specific guidance notified federal employees that bringing MAGA hats to work or using the terms "#resist" or "resistance" in reference to President Trump could violate the Hatch Act.Retired Rear Adm. John Kirby, a former Obama administration spokesperson and a CNN analyst, said on CNN's "The Situation Room" on Wednesday that service members having Trump sign the items was inappropriate."It is in fact a campaign slogan, that is a campaign item, and it is completely inappropriate for the troops to do this," Kirby said.Kirby assigned some blame to Trump himself for political activity around the military: "Every time he's around military audiences, he tends to politicize it, and he brings in complaints and grievances from outside the realm of military policy." 2897

(KGTV) - Embattled Congressman Duncan Hunter faces more questions from the Federal Election Commission regarding campaign finances. The letter claims 4, 923.04 in un-itemized receipts were not reported properly. When contributions from an individual reach 0 for an election cycle, the itemization must include pertinent details.Hunter's spokesman claims the request for more information is commonplace and that many elected officials receive these notifications."Congressman Hunter's campaign has always complied with all regulations and reporting requirements concerning federal campaign laws akgwill continue to do so," said Michael Harrison.Hunter faces charges for misusing more than 0,000 of campaign finances and goes to court in the new year. (KGTV) — A reminder to dog owners as hot weather settles into San Diego: Watch out for your pooch's paws. The general rule of thumb for hot weather is if it's too hot to put your hand on the ground, it's too hot for your dog's paws.In Medical Lake, Wash., a dog named Olaf is now recovering after its owner failed to properly protect his dog's paws. The Medical Lake Veterinary Hospital posted photos showing Olaf's pads burned off:"Olaf walked over a mile ... before his owner realized his pads were burned, and even then he wasn't whining or limping!" the hospital posted. "He is one tough cookie (and exceptionally sweet cookie.)"Olaf's owner told KEPR he didn't notice his dog's injury until he saw bloody paw prints on the ground and that the the injury exposed raw muscle.Veterinary experts suggest dog owners protect their dog's paws using pet boots, paw wax, or socks. It also helps to keep dogs on grass or walk when the temperature outside and pavement is much cooler. 986
