The suspect accused of carrying out Friday's terror attack in Christchurch, New Zealand, was likely on his way to carry out a third shooting before he was stopped by authorities, New Zealand's top police official said.Fifty people were killed when a gunman opened fire inside two mosques last week. Authorities have charged Brenton Tarrant, a 28-year-old Australian man, with murder in connection with the incident. More charges are expected.Police Commissioner Mike Bush said Wednesday that authorities "absolutely" believe they stopped the suspect "on the way to a further attack.""Lives were saved," he added, but declined to go into detail to not "traumatize others."The first funerals were held Wednesday for Khaled Mustafa, 44, and his son, 15-year-old Hamza.Hundreds of people stood in solemn silence at Memorial Park Cemetery, where graves had been dug to bury dozens of victims.New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda was back in Christchurch to offer comfort to those affected by the tragedy. She said at a news conference that the country will broadcast the Islamic call to prayer Friday on TV New Zealand and Radio New Zealand in support of the country's Muslim population."There's a sense among New Zealanders that they wish to show to the Muslim community their support, their love," Ardern said at a news conference Wednesday."But the challenge for all of us going forward is that they're safety is assured by making sure we never have an environment where violent extremist ideology can flourish. And that means addressing racism and extremism wherever it emerges.""Why do I not know what you're doing to identify the bodies?"While many family members have expressed understanding about the time it is taking to receive victims' bodies for burial, others have voiced frustration. Islamic funerals typically are held as soon as possible after death.Mohamed Safi, 23, lost his father in the attack at the Al Noor mosque. He said the authorities have not explained their process for identifying his father's body and have been slow to offer details."They're offering nothing, they're saying, 'We're doing our procedures and process.' Why do I not know what you're doing to identify the bodies?" Safi told CNN."They know that our Islam is about patience. They're testing our patience right now," Safi said.At the same news conference, Bush said that the identification process was "an absolute priority for family reasons, compassionate reasons and for cultural reasons."Ardern said she shared the frustrations voiced by the victims of loved ones, but also noted that authorities were under significant strain due to the number of victims. She said 30 of the victim's bodies have been identified and approved for release."I know the process has been incredibly difficult, frustratingly slow from the perspective of family members, but on the (other) side, I've seen those who are working on this process as well and I can also acknowledge that they are working incredibly hard too," Ardern said.'Darkest days'On Tuesday, Ardern had used 3054

The Supreme Court could now decide as early as Wednesday afternoon whether an unnamed foreign-owned company will have to pay daily fines for avoiding a grand jury subpoena related to Robert Mueller's special counsel investigation. The company submitted a reply under seal to the Supreme Court earlier today, following written arguments it and the Justice Department made last week. The filing Wednesday tees up a vote by the full Supreme Court. The company has been trying to avoid a subpoena from a DC-based grand jury, and faced court-imposed fines for every day it did not turn over information. After losing at an appeals court, the company took its challenge to the Supreme Court and asked for a freeze on the mounting penalties.Chief Justice John Roberts allowed it a temporary pause last month, but the full court is now expected to weigh in on whether the freeze should stay in place.A denial from the court would be an apparent win for Mueller's team. Grand jury matters in the federal court system are typically kept secret, unless a witness decides to speak about the subpoenas they receive or their experience testifying. However, the case has still been one of the most secretive in years to progress through the court system. It apparently included two face-offs between special counsel office prosecutors and the unnamed company's private attorneys. After losing at the trial level, the DC Circuit Court closed a floor of the courthouse during appellate arguments to keep the identities of the arguing attorneys completely under wraps. The company has kept nearly all its filings secret -- with the exception of a log of when it submits information to the appeals courts.Though the Supreme Court allows for cases like this to be secret in their early requests, the high court has never heard a known case where all parties and arguments stayed confidential. 1907

The parents of a middle school student are suing a Houston-area school district and school officials in federal court for allegedly coloring in his hair design earlier this year with a black permanent marker.According to the lawsuit filed Sunday, officials at the Berry Miller Junior High in Pearland, Texas, claimed the design in the then-seventh grader's haircut violated the Pearland Independent School District's dress code policy. The suit alleges, "They laughed as they took many minutes to color 13-year-old J.T's scalp which took many days of scrubbing to come off."Lawsuit says incident came day after haircutThe lawsuit says Juelz Trice got a fade haircut April 16 and the next day when he was in the cafeteria for breakfast he was told by an assistant principal to go to the office. The civil rights lawsuit names the then-assistant principal Tony Barcelona (since promoted to principal), discipline clerk Helen Day and teacher Jeanette Peterson as defendants as well as the school district.CNN has reached out to the individuals named in the lawsuit and has not immediately heard back. The boy, who is African-American, allegedly was given two options by the two administrators. He could use a black Sharpie to color his scalp, the lawsuit says, or go to in-school suspension. Juelz didn't want a suspension affecting his track team eligibility so he chose the permanent marker option, the lawsuit says. The black Sharpie made the design line in Juelz's hair more prominent, the complaint says.Day took the marker from Juelz and began to blacken Juelz's scalp, the court document says. Peterson -- who, like the administrators, is identified in the court document as white -- came into the office and was asked to use the marker on the boy's scalp and did so, the lawsuit says.Attorney says school district has done nothing but change policyRandall Kallinen, attorney for the student's parents Dante Trice and Angela Washington, said Tuesday that the school never tried to notify the family before coloring their son's scalp. The discipline clerk should have known better how children should be disciplined, he said. The attorney says other than changing the dress code, the school district has done nothing to attempt to rectify the situation. The 2265
