SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A baby southern white rhino born this week at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park has monumental implications moving forward.Not only is the rhino calf the zoo's first successful rhino birth via artificial insemination, it's the first successful in North America for the rhino species.The calf, named Edward, was born Sunday at the zoo's Nikita Kahn Rhino Rescue Center. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A father whose infant daughter was found dead outside a Los Angeles-area mortuary surrendered Monday at the U.S.-Mexico border. Alexander Echevarria, 22, of Sacramento, turned himself in to authorities at the San Ysidro Port of Entry with his attorney by his side. Echevarria was considered a person of interest in the death of 8-month-old Alexia Rose. The baby’s body was found near a trash container outside a funeral home in Bellflower last week. The infant was partially covered by a blanket and left in a car seat. Police believe the girl died in Sacramento. Her death was not due to natural causes, the Sacramento County Sheriff said Monday. Family members had reported Echeverria missing on Memorial Day. They said he suffers from depression and had made suicidal statements. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A grand jury indicted two San Diego men Thursday on suspicion of blowing up ATM’s in Kearny Mesa and Miramar.Chad Engel, 46, and Scott Petri, 47, were charged with five counts including using explosives for the crimes and conspiracy to commit bank robbery.The first robbery happened July 4, 2017, at the California Coast Credit Union branch ATM on Ruffin Rd. The explosives went off but the ATM was not breached.RELATED: Explosives used in ATM robberiesThe second robbery was on August 13, 2017, at the Chevron gas station on Miramar Rd. Investigators said Engel and Petri drilled a hole in the ATM, filled it with gas, and ignited a fuse.
