TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A Florida woman was shocked by an early-morning visitor that had made herself at home in her Christmas tree — a raccoon.Early Thursday morning, at about 4:15 a.m., Aubrey Iacobelli was woken up by her dog growling."I have a doggy door and my dog sleeps right in front of that dog door. I hear her going in and out all night. I wake up and I hear her barking outside," Iacobelli said.She asked her Amazon Alexa to turn on the lights, and saw her dog was staring at the Christmas tree and barking."I just knew that there was something there that shouldn't have been there. I see a furry body in the Christmas tree," she said.She grabbed a frying pan to try to get the animal — which she thought was a cat — out of her tree."I didn't want to hurt the animal. I just wanted it outside of the house," she said,That's when the raccoon finally came out of the tree and revealed itself. Iacobelli and her dog spotted the raccoon on the side of the tree and the dog jumped towards it, knocking over the tree.Warning: The video below contains some explicit language."The raccoon ran away from freedom. The birthday party for a 5-year-old Davenport, Iowa boy turned into one he’ll never forget when several officers from the Davenport Police Department accepted his invitation to attend.Jackie Martin took to Facebook to share the story of her son, Brayden, and his love for police officers. According to Martin, he loves everything about them, so it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise when Brayden decided he wanted to have a police officer-themed birthday party this year.Brayden personally delivered invitations to the police station in hopes of getting to see a squad car.But what he got in return was so much more.Over the course of the day, seven different officers made their way to Brayden’s party. (AP) — A bookkeeper who worked at a Southern California high school for nearly three decades is suspected of stealing more than 0,000 from student clubs.The Riverside Press-Enterprise reported Thursday that Virginia Ellen Schaul pleaded not guilty this week to one count of grand theft. The 65-year-old was ordered back to court July 12 and released on her own recognizance.Schaul was fired in 2017 from her longtime job with Temecula Valley High after she failed to show up for a hearing looking into missing money and overdrawn accunts.Prosecutors say over at least a four-year period Schaul took money from accounts used to pay for equipment, uniforms, entry fees, travel fees and other expenses for clubs and teams. 747

Greg Abbott announced Thursday that he is putting a pause on lifting pandemic-related lockdowns as cases of COVID-19 reach near-record levels in the state.According to a press release, businesses that have already re-opened under previous mandates can continue to operate "under the minimum standard health protocols provided by the Texas Department of State Health Services." However, the state will not proceed with further reopenings for the time being.“The last thing we want to do as a state is go backwards and close down businesses," Abbott said.
