DUBLIN, Ohio (AP) — Jack Nicklaus says he and wife Barbara tested positive for the coronavirus at the onset of the pandemic. Nicklaus says he and wife Barbara stayed at home in Florida from about March 13 until they were "done with it" on April 20. He says he had a sore throat and a cough, while Barbara had no symptoms of COVID-19. Both turned 80 earlier this year. Nicklaus says given their age, they were "a couple of the lucky ones." (KGTV) -- Some parents are upset after a document from the Cajon Valley Union School District was accidentally shared.Cajon Valley Union School District Superintendent David Miyashiro said an employee’s notes taken during a weekend planning summit -- which included the teachers union, school board members, and district management -- were inadvertently released.Under one of the sections in the notes is language describing parents as “stay at home mom, do not want to teach their kids,” as well as references to some parents being “right-wing” and “not all believe this is real and believe it will be finished by August.”Several parents obtained the document and were upset with how they were described. Demanding answers, some parents showed up at a closed-door district meeting on Tuesday evening where reopening plans were being discussed.Miyashiro sent 10News this statement on the matter: “I've both apologized to the parent community on our behalf and also addressed this with the employee. They weren't meant for public view but there's no excuse ... we don't speak about anyone that way.”Parents who spoke to 10News about the notes said they want something to come out of this situation, whether it’s training or education for staff members."The trust has been lost; the trust between parents and the school district. Trust between parents and superintendent, trust between parents and the board, I think. EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- The San Diego County Sheriff's Department is looking for a man who attempted to rob a Burger King, threatening employees with a gun, in El Cajon off of Old Highway 80. Deputies say the man ordered food and when the cashier told him the amount owed, he pulled out the gun and demanded money. The employees ran to the back and the suspect shot his gun at least once before running off, according to deputies.There were no customers inside the restaurant at the time of the shooting and none of the employees were hurt. The suspect was seen taking off westbound on Old Hwy 80 in a dark-colored pick-up truck. He's described as white or Hispanic, 5'8", and about 200 pounds. EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - A renowned El Cajon artist who captured a moment in American history is helping it live on today. Olaf Wieghorst, known as the dean of Western art, spent most of his adult life in El Cajon. “He couldn't not paint and everything he painted had a cowboy, an Indian or a horse in it,” said Jim Daniels of the Olaf Wieghorst Museum. Daniels said horses were in Wieghorst’s blood. “Great horseman having been around horses his whole life,” said Daniels. Wieghorst used his horse skills as a mounted patrolman in the New York Police Department. After he married a woman named Mae, he was motivated to leave the East Coast. “He was not enamored with her mother so he got out a map of the United States and wanted to find the place farthest from New York,” said Daniels. In 1945, Wieghorst started a new life in El Cajon as a natural artist with no formal training. “He traveled in a pickup truck with a camper shell on it and spent time with Navajo and local Indians all through the west,” Daniels said. Wieghorst often painted from a room which still shows paint splatters on the wall. As his reputation grew, so did his fans: Presidents Eisenhower, Ford, and Reagan, and celebrities including Burt Reynolds and Clint Eastwood. The painter also appeared in western movies with John Wayne, including “El Dorado” in 1967. “They became good friends and drinking buddies and John Wayne would come down and hang out with him.” Two of Wieghorst’s paintings, the Navajo Madonna and Navajo Man sold for more than million in 1985. However, interest in Wieghorst’s work has waned. “I think there's a lot of people around El Cajon still who've never heard the name and could care less, and there were a lot of people then who had no idea they had one of the greatest artists the world has ever had,” said Daniels. The Wieghorst Museum brings in children to keep the painter’s legacy alive. “Part of the strength of a community is remembrance of the past and appreciation of greatness and that's displayed through art.” Wieghorst died in 1988 at the age of 88. 2217
