A melee marred the end of Thursday's NFL game that saw the Cleveland Browns defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers 21-7, in a battle between two traditional rivals. With just eight seconds remaining, Browns defender Myles Garrett ripped the helmet off of Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph. Garrett then used the helmet to strike Rudolph. This came as players from both the Browns and Steelers were exchanging punches and shoves. The incident began when Rudolph made a short pass while Garrett was attempting a sack. As the two players were on the ground, it appeared Rudolph may have been either trying to remove Garrett's helmet, or had his hand stuck in Garrett's helmet. Then Garrett pulled Rudolph's lid off, and Rudolph responded by getting into a shoving match with Garrett. That is when Garrett struck Rudolph in the head with Rudolph's helmet. In a postgame interview with Fox Sports' Erin Andrews, Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield called Garrett's actions inexcusable, and predicted that Garrett would be suspended. "I don't care rivalry or not, we can't do that," Mayfield said. "That is just endangering the other team."Garrett himself called his actions "foolish.""I shouldn't allow myself to slip like that. It's out of character," Garrett said.Browns QB Baker Mayfield joined 1296

A Parkland shooting survivor and pro-Second Amendment activist said Harvard University rescinded his acceptance as a result of racist remarks he made before the 2018 massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida.Kyle Kashuv disclosed the rescinding Monday in a Twitter thread, acknowledging that he and classmates, then 16, made "abhorrent racial slurs" in digital messages almost two years ago "in an effort to be as extreme and shocking as possible."He wrote an apology for his remarks and posted a screenshot of what appears to be a June 3 letter from Harvard Dean of Admissions William Fitzsimmons, rescinding his admission.CNN has reached out to Harvard University for comment."Harvard deciding that someone can't grow, especially after a life-altering event like the shooting, is deeply concerning. If any institution should understand growth, it's Harvard, which is looked to as the pinnacle of higher education despite its checkered past," Kashuv said on Twitter."Throughout its history, Harvard's faculty has included slave owners, segregationists, bigots and antisemites," he added. "If Harvard is suggesting that growth isn't possible and that our past defines our future, then Harvard is an inherently racist institution. But I don't believe that."Kashuv is a young conservative with a followingKashuv has built a profile as the conservative alternative to other visible, outspoken members of the #NeverAgain movement -- fellow Parkland students David Hogg, Emma Gonzalez and Cameron Kasky. He's been outspoken about his support for gun ownership while his classmates have called for more laws to be implemented in the wake of the February 2018 shooting, in which 17 people died.Kashuv went to the White House in March 2018 to meet with first lady Melania Trump and had a surprise meeting with President Donald Trump. While his classmates walked out of school in April 2018 to demand action on gun reform, the teen 1952

A Phoenix Suns fan is facing charges after cursing at team owner Robert Sarver during a game and later confronting an officer as he was removed from the arena.Police say Jeffrey Camill Whitley was seated near Sarver inside Talking Stick Resort Arena during the Phoenix Suns-New Orleans Pelicans game on April 5.After Sarver had sat down in his personal seats, the 18-year-old and his friends began yelling obscenities, and also reportedly called Sarver "the worst owner in the league."Court records show the arena security asked Whitley to stop, but he continued for several more minutes before having to be removed from the arena. While being escorted out of the building by Phoenix police, Whitely allegedly chest-bumped an officer, trying to push him backward. He has been charged with aggravated assault and criminal trespassing. 843

A night of excess at a Pittsburgh apartment ended with three people dead, four people hospitalized and a police department warning how quickly drugs can kill.Authorities responded to a report of an unconscious man in an apartment complex elevator around 2 a.m. Sunday. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, Pittsburgh Director of Public Safety Wendell Hissrich said.Shortly later, paramedics responded to another man a few blocks away, outside, who was "somewhat conscious" and had symptoms similar to those of the first man. He was taken to a nearby hospital, Hissrich said.Police traced both men back to an apartment on the city's south side. There, they found five other people who also apparently overdosed.Hissrich said he believed the victims were men between about 30 and 50 years old."The victims -- including three people who died and four who remain hospitalized -- appear to have been at the same venue together, and then to have gone to a second location at a private residence where they apparently overdosed on drugs," 1049

A University of North Carolina study warns against the use of THC or CBD by women who are in the early stages of pregnancy. The study, which was published this week, tested the use of both synthetic and natural cannabinoids on mice. The results found that one-time exposure to cannabinoids early in a pregnancy can cause growth issues in a developing embryo. UNC said that this was the first time a study of this kind has been performed on mammals. Researchers said that they found the effects of CBD and THC are potentially very similar to what is seen in fetal alcohol syndrome. The researchers added that cannabinoid use disrupted signaling between molecules and cells that control growth and development. Researchers believe the results on mouse fetuses would be similar to human fetuses.“The development of the embryo in this time period is very similar across all vertebrates,” said Scott Parnell, a member of the UNC Bowles Center for Alcohol Studies. “In this study we also test a synthetic cannabinoid in zebrafish that yielded similar growth deformations as the natural CBs. Having the same results across animal models reinforces our findings.”The researchers administered enough CBD that is considered a therapeutic range for humans. The THC concentration was of similar levels to smoking marijuana. “It is concerning how little we know about the use of marijuana, its CBs, and products like CBD oil during pregnancy,” Parnell said. “We know that there is no safe period to drink alcohol during a pregnancy, and I think this research shows the same is likely true of marijuana use.”To read more on the study, click 1639
