Crowds of migrants resumed their long journey north on Sunday from the Mexican border city of Ciudad Hidalgo, according to Mexican federal police officers.The caravan was headed for Tapachula, a city about 37 km (23 miles) north of the Mexico-Guatemala border, the officers told CNN.There were about 10 buses awaiting migrants along the highway between Tapachula and Ciudad Hidalgo and the drivers had been instructed to carry the migrants to shelters in Tapachula, the officers said. COCKEYSVILLE, Md — A unique program that partners retired thoroughbred racehorses with veterans to help combat PTSD is now adapting to help Maryland National Guardsmen who are responding to the COVID-19 pandemic."It's been rewarding every day. Just to see the smiles on the faces," employee Steve Mooney said.Mooney first got involved with Saratoga WarHorse 5 years ago, participating after he got back from a deployment in Afghanistan and suffered from PTSD and insomnia."It has help me cope with things a little different. Help me look at stress a little different," Mooney said.After going through the program in another state, Mooney helped start a branch at the Baltimore County Center for Agriculture in 2018."How many marriages did we save? How many people came off substance abuse?" Mooney said.He said the program changes lives with the connection veterans work to earn from horses."They're running around the pen trying to avoid you, and then as you interact with the horse, it comes to a point that the horse is gonna say, 'alright, I wanna be your friend now,'" Mooney said."You can see that moment when that horse and that vet decide to become friends, and there's a kind of like a handshake, and that's probably the coolest part of this whole program for me," volunteer Marc Junkerman said.An Army vet, Junkerman also decided to volunteer with the program after participating himself and feeling the change."I had to be mindful that whatever I was bringing into that ring had to positive. I had to put all the negativity down because otherwise, you're not going to get that connection with the horse. So, what's really cool is if you put that negativity down and then go in there and connect, you usually bring something better out," Junkerman said. "The flip side is, why would you then pick up something you put down? We will clean it up with the other stuff at the end of the day."Now, the program is adapting to help the thousands of Maryland National Guardsmen who dropped what they were doing to help the state through this pandemic."This is a completely different thing that none of us have dealt with in the past," Tech Sgt. CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. — A copy of a school quiz entitled "Does Nikolas Cruz Deserve to Die?" recently gained a lot of attention on social media.The quiz was meant to be an assignment on the death penalty. School officials say it was distributed to students at Coral Glades High School in Coral Springs, Florida last week. The high school is just a few miles away from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School where Cruz shot and killed 17 students and staff earlier this year.Stoneman Douglas parents like Cindy Levine are furious."These people lost their children, for crying out loud," Levine said. "And my son could have been one of them."The outrage spilled onto social media. Stoneman Douglas survivor and student activist Cameron Kasky, quoted in the quiz, tweeted "I cannot begin to express how pathetic I find this." School board critic Andrew Pollack, who lost his daughter in the school shooting, tweeted: "This is absolutely despicable." And, "Does anyone @browardschools have a brain?"School staff posted a message on the school website Friday saying they were unaware of the assignment.It said the material was from a subscription-based publication and has been pulled.The school said it's instituting a review and regrets the incident occurred.Scholastic, the publisher, sent WPLG a statement that their intention was to "... provide a platform for meaningful conversations around the history, civics and social impact of the death penalty. CITRUS COUNTY, Florida — A woman was attacked by an alligator on Wednesday while she was swimming in a lake in Citrus County, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission.The FWC says 24-year-old Felicitie Marie Gillette was swimming in Lake Hernando around 1 a.m. when an alligator grabbed her by the left arm and began to drag her underwater. She was reportedly able to fight off the alligator and call 911 for help.Gillette was taken to Ocala Regional Hospital for treatment of her injuries. According to the FWC, she was treated and released. She sustained non-life threatening injuries.The alligator is believed to 5 to 6-feet long.The FWC and the Citrus County Sheriff's Office are working to catch the alligator. A trapper has also been called to the scene.The public beach access to Lake Hernando is closed while a wildlife trapper searches for the alligator.Families who visit the lake say they've seen an alligator swim along the beach's public access area."The alligator was on the hunt," said Dennis Weis. "You could tell by the aggressive movements by the alligator."Dennis Weis shared cell phone video with ABC Action News showing an alligator roaming in the water near the beach, just a few days before the attack. Weis believes that people were feeding the alligator."When the kids jumped into the water over there, he would go up over there, go under," said Weis.FWC says the victim is currently homeless.FWC wants to remind the public that if anyone believes a specific alligator poses a threat to people, pets or property, they should immediately call the toll-free Nuisance Alligator Hotline at 866-FWC-GATOR or 866-392-4286. 1667
