OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- Nichols Elementary School in Oceanside briefly went on lockdown Monday afternoon after reports of a suspicious person on the playground. The lockdown was reported just before 12:30 p.m. Monday afternoon at the school located on the 4200 block of Old Grove Road. According to police, a school employee was out with the children on the playground when she saw an unknown man on the premises. The woman called police and took the students inside, prompting the 25-minute precautionary lockdown. Police responded and searched the area, but were unable to find anyone, at which point the school was taken off lockdown. 650

(KMTV) — The Omaha Police Department (OPD) says a preliminary investigation into President Donald Trump's MAGA rally Tuesday at Eppley Airport shows seven people were transported to local hospitals for "a variety of medical conditions" and many more sought aid for other medical reasons.About 25,000 people were taken from the parking lots to the rally site via 40 buses over the course of the day. The buses started running at 10 a.m. CT. When the rally ended and President Donald Trump left, there was high demand for buses around 9 p.m. It was already 34 degrees outside at that time. Reports from the rally indicate thousands of attendees were stranded in the cold, waiting for buses to take them back to their cars. A Trump administration official told local media the buses were delayed by a traffic jam on access roads near the airport. OPD says buses for people with handicaps were made available and additional buses from the Metro Area Transit Authority were called in to give people a ride back to their vehicles. Some did choose to walk back to their cars, which was about 2.5 miles away. (KGTV) - Parents in one North County school district are reacting to new numbers that show a sharp increase in the number of failing grades during virtual learning.Scotti Taylor has two children attending Mission Vista High: her son, a freshman, and her daughter, a junior. She says since the school year started in early September with virtual learning, both her children have struggled."Both of my kids normally have a 4.0 across the board. Now they're slipping down to low B's," said Taylor.Taylor says her daughter is struggling the most with virtual learning."I do think she's not as engaged. She's really struggling with focus. They don't have the same peer relationships or teacher relationships ... During class, she's mentioned many times that it's difficult to figure out what's going on. Sometimes she can't read the data on the screen," said Taylor.Taylor's children are not alone in their struggles. Vista Unified just released its six-week progress report for all of its high schools. During that time frame, it was all virtual learning.The number of F's that stand as the current class grade total more than 6,000. Last year at the same time, the number was more than 2,000, an increase of more than 200%. The number of students receiving F's in at least half of their classes increased from 3.9% in 2019 to 20.7% this year.In late October, Carlsbad Unified School District released an eight-week progress report and a similar finding, with F grades increasing by more than 300%.Taylor's kids are about to resume in-person learning Monday. OCEANSIDE (CNS) - A 32-foot sailboat capsized and ran aground on the Oceanside shoreline Saturday morning, authorities said.The boat's skipper and only occupant was treated at a hospital but only sustained minor injuries from the accident, which police responded to at around 12:15 a.m. Saturday, Oceanside Police Officer Nick Nunez said.The skipper had left Santa Catalina Island for Dana Point in Orange County late Friday, but his navigation equipment went out sometime during the journey and he decided to head for Oceanside, which he believed he could get to without instruments, Nunez said.The boat made it to Oceanside but the skipper missed the Oceanside Harbor entrance, got caught in a swell and ended up running into the beach near the 1200 block of North Pacific Street.Police were still working to get the boat off the beach around 10 a.m. Saturday morning, Nunez said.
