LANCASTER, Calif. – A man has been arrested for the murders of his 12-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter in Lancaster, California, which is north of Los Angeles.The L.A. County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement that fire personnel located the victims when they were called to the family's home to investigate a possible gas leak Friday morning.Detectives say the children both appeared to have suffered from lacerations and stab wounds.The mayor of Lancaster, Rex Parris, confirmed to KABC and the L.A. Times that the children were both found decapitated. He told the newspaper that “it was pretty brutal.”Officials tell the L.A. Times that the victims were found in separate bedrooms in the home and it’s unclear how long they had been dead.At the home, the sheriff’s department says there were also two adults and two other children who were questioned by homicide investigators. Times identified the two adults as the victims’ parents.The children's father, Maurice Taylor Sr., was later arrested on murder charges and booked into jail, where he’s being held with a million bail.The L.A. (KGTV) — A 5.0-magnitude earthquake was reported just outside Ridgecrest, Calif., Thursday.The quake struck about 25 miles north of Ridgecrest, Calif., just before 2 p.m. The earthquake had a depth of about one and a half miles deep, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.According to the USGS' "Did You Feel It?" map, shaking could be felt from as far away as San Diego and Coronado. Responses were also reported from Las Vegas, Nev., the map showed.No injuries or damages to structures were immediately reported.Ridegcrest was hit by a 7.1-magnitude earthquake on July 5. A new cell phone tower near Lakeview Elementary School has parents concerned. “This just showed up overnight, There had been no explanation about it at all,” said Maria Tomasello. She and other parents say a county ordinance states the tower should be at least 300 feet from the school, but they were told this particular site was approved before the new rule.Parents are worried about the safety of the technology. “People might say that it hasn’t been studied enough and it’s safe, but why would we want to take that chance and expose our children and our staff.” RELATED: Protesters rally against 5G in San DiegoThe group says they’ve reached out to lawmakers and AT&T, but haven’t received the answers they want. 10News reached out to AT&T. The company said the tower in question is actually using 4G technology and there are no current plans for 5G at the site. Although parents are concerned, experts in the field say there’s nothing to worry about. “Let’s look at scientific studies done and not rely on anything people are putting out there about 5G,” said UCSD professor Sujit Dey. Dey is the director of the Center for Wireless Communications. He cautions people to be careful about where they get their information. Dey says the bottom line is there is still more to learn, but he believes the technology is safe and may prove even safer that what we’ve been using. “Much safer actually than these big towers would have been,” Dey added.
