SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego police cruiser struck a man that officers were trying to arrest, police said Monday.The incident happened at around 4:15 a.m. in the 4000 block of Winona Avenue in the City Heights area.Police said officers tried to stop a man riding a bicycle without a light, but he rode away.An officer got out of his squad car without putting it in park, and the vehicle rolled and tapped the bicyclist, police said.The bicyclist was taken to the hospital for an evaluation and later released to police custody. 537

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — An Oceanside family is mourning the loss of a beloved father to COVID-19.David Bustamante first started feeling sick during the first week of November."Started with a cold. Congestion, and then a cough in his chest," said his daughter Samantha Bustamante.A few days later, he drove himself to the hospital, received a COVID-19 test, and was sent home. By the time he learned he was positive, his symptoms had gotten worse."He was having trouble breathing, really raspy," Samantha said.Bustamante decided to stay at the home of a friend, who had also tested positive. On the morning of Nov. 13, Bustamante, a father of two grown children, passed away in his sleep, at the age of 64."It’s very hard knowing he’s gone, and it’s heartbreaking ... so quick, suddenly and out of the blue. Very unexpected," said Samantha.Samantha says her father loved his family and loved his work in the inspection process for a new home builder."He was resilient, hard-working, and caring with a big heart," said Samantha.During the pandemic, he kept working. She doesn't know how he contracted COVID-19, but does know he was diligent about wearing a mask."All I can say to people is to be as safe as you can in everything you do ... You just don't know what's going to happen," said Samantha.On Thanksgiving, Samantha will join some extended family is a small get-together, with one fewer place setting"He’s definitely going to be missed. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A water hydrant break Friday flooded a stretch of Midway District road and swallowed a traffic signal.The break was reported on Midway Drive between Sports Arena Boulevard and Kemper Street, according to San Diego police. The stretch of road was closed fdue to flooding.There was no estimated time of restoration.The flooding in the area was so severe, a traffic signal sunk about halfway into the ground.San Diego Fire-Rescue crews were able to shut the water off shortly before 5:30 p.m. 516

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- An investigation is underway to find the driver in a hit-and-run crash that injured two passengers in City Heights.Police say the female driver crashed into multiple parked cars on Fairmount Avenue just after midnight on Wednesday.Witnesses told police they heard the crash, and then saw the driver jump out of the car and run, leaving the two female passengers behind.Both women managed to crawl out of the mangled car with the help of nearby neighbors. One of the passengers was seriously injured, but neighbors say they kept her calm and stable until paramedics arrived.Police are investigating what led up to the crash.This is a developing story stay with ABC 10news for updates. 711

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A series of closures are set for Interstate 5 throughout June and possibly into July for Mid-Coast trolley construction.SANDAG says the closures will allow crews to remove and install temporary wooden structures to support the trolley bridge, also called falsework. The falsework currently on Voigt Drive will be removed and installed just south of Nobel Drive to support a second trolley overcrossing. Both trolley overcrossings will span the I-5, SANDAG says.A full closure of southbound I-5 lanes will start on Sunday, June 9, from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night Sunday through Thursday, and will run through Friday, June 28. The closure covers I-5/I-805 interchange to La Jolla Colony Dr. Detours will be set up for motorists to use southbound I-805 and westbound State Route 52 in place of the stretch of I-5.Once the southbound closure is complete, a full northbound closure will be needed.The Mid-Coast trolley will eventually extend the Blue Line trolley from Old Town Transit Center to the UC San Diego area.
