(KGTV) -- The California Department of Education on Monday released guidance for the safe reopening of all state schools.State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond and other CDE leaders unveiled a guidance document that will serve as a road map of recommendations for schools as they work with local public health officials on steps to reopen.All schools in the state closed in March due to stay-at-home orders protecting against the spread of COVID-19. Reopening dates have not yet been set.The document addresses topics such as face coverings, physical distancing, symptom screenings and distance learning.Some of the suggestions include:Students should use cloth face coverings, especially in circumstances when physical distancing cannot be maintained. Face coverings should be worn while waiting to enter the school campus; while on school grounds (except when eating or drinking); while leaving school; while on a school bus.In classrooms, desks are to be a minimum of 6 feet apart and desks should be arranged in a way that minimizes face-to-face contact.All staff should wear face coverings. Teachers could use face shields, which enable students to see their faces and to avoid potential barriers to phonological instruction.The CDE also laid out suggested scheduling models, including:Two-day rotation: Students report to school on two designated days based on grade level for in-person instruction.Alternate week rotation: Half of the student population attends in-person learning opportunities four full days per week while the other half is engaged in distance learning opportunities.Looping structure: Students and teachers will remain together for multiple grade levels (TK-8).Staggered scheduling: Start and dismissal times would be staggered based on grade level.Click here to view the department's full guidelinesThurmond said, “We have to prepare for the likelihood that we will have to return to distance learning.”Jean Marie Arce, whose son will be a sophomore at Hilltop High School in Chula Vista, told 10News she is concerned for working and single parents when it comes to dealing with in-class learning versus distance learning for their children.“It’s so much easier for him just to be in school than trying to do the online thing,” Arce said.Arce also had concerns on how physical distancing would work once students are allowed to return to campus.“These classrooms are 20-plus kids. How are you going to get these classrooms to fill 20-plus kids at a six-food distance?” Arce wondered.Each school district will be responsible for how to reopen schools, and state officials hope the guidelines will help districts determine their own approach to reopening.“Right now is a critical time for school districts to really begin to analyze their campus, footprints of their campus, and to make determinations about how many students can be safely taught in an in-campus and in-class instruction way,” Thurmond said.“A lot of planning is going to have to take place in order for this to happen, and I think if they’re going to do this, they need to start now if they want to open up in the fall,” Arce said. 3151

“Tiger King” star Carole Baskin announced Thursday that she had launched a new virtual reality game where players track tigers in the wild.In a press release, Baskin has worked since February with developer Xennial Digital on the game. "My goal for decades has been to stop the practice of holding wild cats hostage under the guise of conservation or education," Baskin said in the statement. "Judging from the tens of thousands of calls, letters, emails, and social posts I’ve gotten after Tiger King aired, it’s clear to me that most people don’t understand that breeding tigers are causing their extinction in the wild, not preventing it. Another fallacy that came into sharp focus was the general public’s belief that captive-bred big cats can be set free.Baskin said she wanted to prove to people that there was a better way to educate people and make them care about conservation than keeping wild animals in cages, so she wanted to develop a game to make that happen.“It’s a fully immersive game that takes the player on a journey where they learn how to track a tiger in the wild,” Baskin said. “Along the way, they learn about the plight of the tiger in the wild and how the lucrative cub petting industry is fueling the demand for poached wild tigers. (KGTV) - Three San Diego residents were shot to death during a weekend of violence in Tijuana.Multiple Tijuana-based news services said a triple homicide was reported on the morning of Nov. 25 in front of a building in the Lomas Verdes housing complex. When the bodies were found, they each had gunshot wounds to the head.According to news outlet Punto Norte, investigators believe the three people killed were taken from an apartment at gunpoint, forced to kneel and then shot.10News spoke to 23-year-old Katheryn Garcia. She told us her cousin, 17-year-old Christopher Alexis Gomez was among the three people shot to death. Garcia said her cousin is a senior at O'Farrell Charter School (OCS) in Encanto. She said he was a proud starting Lineman for the school's new football team. Last week, Gomez told Garcia that he was going to a barbecue party in Ensenada on Friday with his friend, 18-year-old Juan Suarez Ojeda. Dr. Jonathan Dean, the Superintendent at OCS, told 10News Ojeda wasa recent O'Farrell Charter graduate, class of 2018. Garcia said she has never met the third victim, but knew the teen was Ojeda's friend who lived in Tijuana.Garcia said the three were tortured, likely in a different location, before being shot execution style.Garcia said her family are now left with more questions than answers. Why would Christopher, a boy who had never been in trouble, be killed? Was this a case of mistaken identity? Was he at the wrong place at the wrong time? Who would do this?“They’re monsters. Who does that to three young boys who had their whole life ahead of them," Garcia said in tears. The school set up a GoFundMe page to help Gomez’s and Suarez-Ojeda’s families with funeral costs and other expenses.Further details on the deaths on the San Diegans’ deaths were not released by authorities or news outlets.Four other deadly shootings occurred in the city during the weekend, according to Tijuana news reports. 1940
