(KGTV) - Gardena Police are thanking the UPS workers and customers who stopped a robbery in progress outside a UPS Store.Two men approached the victim as he walked outside the store September 7.  Police said the men knocked the victim with a ground, struck him with a crowbar, and tried to take his property.Police credit UPS employees and customers for scaring off the robbers.The victim was not seriously hurt.The attackers, who drove away in a white van, have not been caught. 508

Have you been thinking about asking your boss for a raise?  Now could be the time to ask, thanks to really low unemployment nationwide.Employers across the country are struggling to fill open positions, because of the low employment rate. "You have more bargaining power right now, and that's whether you are currently employed or whether you are looking for a new opportunity," says Andrew Murtagh, who works at the top staffing firm Robert Half.Before you go and ask for more money, Murtagh says you need to ask yourself a question first.  "You got to understand what you are worth,” he says. “Just because it is a hot market right now doesn't give you a hall pass to go around and start dictating what you want, because that may hurt you."  If you're not wanting to push the limits and ask for a raise, Murtagh says you can still ask for other perks.   "You can be very, very creative and the employer doesn't have to invest huge amounts of money to get a return," he says.  Maybe those perks include a parking spot right in front, a free meal once a week, or maybe flexible work hours so you don't have to sit in rush hour traffic.   "What I always encourage is to have active communication in the work place,” Murtagh suggests. “So, I think if you have a good relationship with your boss, then nothing should come as a surprise.” Just remember, to know your worth. 1427

The Court of Arbitration for Sport’s ruling also blocks Russia from bidding to host major sporting events for two years. Russian athletes and teams will still be allowed to compete at next year’s Tokyo Olympics and the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing if they are not implicated in doping or covering up positive tests. The punishments are less than the four-year ban the World Anti-Doping Agency had proposed.One small win for Russia is the proposed team name at major events. The name “Russia” can be retained on uniforms if the words “Neutral Athlete” or “Neutral Team” have equal prominence, the court said.Still, the court’s three judges imposed the most severe penalties on Russia since allegations of state-backed doping and cover-ups emerged after the 2014 Sochi Olympics.The case centered on accusations that Russian state authorities tampered with a database from the Moscow testing laboratory before handing it over to WADA investigators last year.
