SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - It’s a win-win situation: a sale on airfares out of San Diego, with an ultimate destination of Hawaii. Southwest Airlines opened its flight schedule Wednesday for once-daily service out of San Diego. The flights travel to Kahului, Maui, starting Apr. 14, 2020. Flights to Honolulu begin Apr. 20, 2020, Southwest reports. Fares as low as 9 each way will be available on both routes for travel between Apr. 14 and June 4, 2020, according to the airline. The tickets must be purchased Oct. 30. "We're grateful for the steadfast loyalty of our San Diego Customers and we're adding a Southwest heading to their compass of nonstop options," said Andrew Watterson, Executive Vice President & Chief Revenue Officer for Southwest Airlines. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — MiraCosta College is expanding upon a state promise to help make community college more affordable.MiraCosta College announced Tuesday plans to offer free tuition for all first-time college students for the first two years of classes at the campus. Part of the MiraCosta Promise, the plan would be available for all first-time students starting in fall 2019 who are enrolled in at least 12 units per semester.Students must also file a free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or a California Dream Act (CADAA) application.RELATED: Cost of college: What parents and students can expect to pay for admissionThe waiver is dependent upon the passage of Assembly Bill 2, which expands the California College Promise program. Former Gov. Jerry Brown signed the promise program into law in 2017, which covers the first year of tuition at the state's 115 community colleges."This program removes a significant hurdle for college-bound students; tuition and mandatory fees," Sunita Cooke, Superintendent/President of MiraCosta College, said in a release. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Mission Valley's Gordon Biersch restaurant may be closing, but the brewery location will live on under a new local eatery.Puesto will take over the location of the well-known restaurant after it closes in July, according to the company. The Mission Center Road spot will be the Mexican restaurant's third location.Gordon Biersch is set to leave Mission Valley on July 16, though no reason was immediately given for the closure, according to paperwork filed by the company. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — It may sound like a scene out of "Jurassic Park," but you'll soon be able to check out more than 70 life-like dinosaurs from your car at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.Jurassic Quest Drive-Thru is bringing back the popular event with a twist, introducing visitors to a drive-thru display of animatronic dinos at the fairgrounds from Jan. 1 to 10 next year.From their vehicles, guests will experience the massive models — from a Tyrannosaurus rex to Triceratops to 50-foot Megalodon — roaring and moving in realistic displays as they drive through the tour. An audio tour guide will lead guests through the hour-long tour.Organizers say attendees will have limited contact, if any, with staff on-site, and that state and local coronavirus precautions will be taken.Tickets start at per vehicle, with the option for "dinosaur surprise" add-ons. But for those worried about the impending calvary of vehicles to the area, there are plenty of options to beat the rush.In addition to ridesharing options like Uber and Lyft, guests can choose from on-site or off-site parking.
