SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Locals and visitors in San Diego's mountains Friday awoke to a winter wonderland of snowfall.A Thanksgiving storm brought a fresh coating of snowfall to the county's higher elevations, including areas of Julian, Descanso, Palomar Mountain, Pine Valley, and Mt. Laguna. A winter storm warning will continue through 10 p.m. Friday.San Diego mountains can expect to see about 10 to 18 inches of snow above 5,500', 10News meteorologist Megan Parry reports. Areas between 3,000 and 4,000 feet will see trace amounts to 2 inches of snow, and areas 4,000 and 4,500' can expect about 3 to 8 inches. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Katie Malone's birthday celebration in Mexico turned into a nightmare after a horrifying parasailing accident in Mexico.The San Diegan is still recovering after a rope disconnected from the boat she was on. Katie was blown around for 45 minutes in the air before falling hundreds of feet to the ground.Katie did not have medical trip insurance, while she was abroad her condition worsened. Donations helped pay for treatment and an emergency life flight from Mexico to San Diego.She's not alone. According to Generali Global Assistance, 80% of travelers do not have adequate trip coverage.The biggest mistake is assuming your health care coverage at home will be enough, according to Brad Rutta."We often hear of travelers cranking up credit card bills because there are coverage gaps with international plans they are not aware of, there are a lot of different components. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - It’s the largest loss of life in United States Navy history and you can read an award-winning account of it by two San Diego authors. ‘Indianapolis: The True Story of the Worst Sea Disaster in U.S. Naval History and the Fifty-Year Fight to Exonerate an Innocent Man’ is being released as a paperback after the hardcover became a New York Times bestseller. Sara Vladic and Lynn Vincent wrote the book together after researching it for more than 17 years. “It’s so much more than a sinking story and a shark story,” said author Lynn Vincent. Vladic spent nearly two decades interviewing survivors from the sinking USS Indianapolis. “Getting to know these men and their story and heroism and what it took to survive those days is incredible,” added Vladic, “it still teaches us lessons today of what the cost of freedom really is and what we should be remembering.” The book is cinematically written and presents multiple accounts from the men that had to fend off sharks and each other for several days at sea after the heavy cruiser was sank by the Japanese during WWII. The authors say they are in talks with several streaming services to make a miniseries based on the book. 1202

The Hotel Del Coronado has been a landmark of America's Finest City since 1888.While its walls are steeped in history, recently, rumors swirled that a face-changing paint job to the hotel's lobby was coming.Facebook users on the "Coronado Happenings" page voiced worries that the iconic hotel planned to paint its wood-finished lobby white.Do you have a fact or fiction question?
