ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) – A man is dead after police say he barricaded himself inside an Escondido Motel Tuesday afternoon. Police were called to the Hacienda Motel on the 700 block of North Broadway around 2 p.m. after a man didn’t check out of his room. Once they arrived and approached the room, officers say the man inside told them he had a gun and to back away. As they retreated, officers heard two shots fired. SWAT was then called to assist and, after the suspect was barricaded inside the room for several hours, authorities entered and found the man dead. According to police, the man is approximately 30-years-old, but his identity hasn’t yet been released. The motel was evacuated during the incident and nearby streets blocked off. 755

"Can't stop thinking about him and about that day," said Marc Engelhardt.Engelhardt calls the last week all-consuming and painful, since the moment he doubled back during a six-hour bike ride to see what was keeping his friends - only to discover the horrific aftermath. On Thanksgiving, they announced the arrest of a suspect, 41-year-old Jamison Connor, on an unrelated parole warrant related to weapons, drugs and DUI charges."Certainly a sense of relief," said Engelhardt.Engelhardt says news of the arrest came as Lentz's family came together."Thanksgiving was his favorite holiday. FARMINGTON, Utah — A man faces felony charges after he admitted to stabbing a woman and throwing her out of a moving car in Sunday night, killing her. At about 9:50 p.m., emergency dispatch started receiving calls about a body in traffic on northbound I-15. Witnesses reported seeing a vehicle driving erratically and nearly hitting the median."A short time later, witnesses stated a person or what appeared to be a body came out of the vehicle on the driver side. The vehicle then continued for a distance continuing to drive erratically before it came to a stop," a probable cause statement said.A Davis County Sheriff's Office deputy made contact with Oscar Cuevas-Landa near State St. and Main St. in Farmington.According to the probable cause statement, Cuevas-Landa had blood on his hand, forearm and pants, and he was wearing no shirt and only one shoe."After being advised of his Miranda [rights] the subject spoke about the incident stating that he had stabbed the victim multiple times, unbuckled her seat belt, reached over and opened the door and then pushed the victim out of the driver side door," the statement said.Investigators believe Cuevas-Landa had hitched a ride with the victim, whom he didn't know."During that journey, [Cuevas-Landa] stated that the victim looked at him funny, so he stabbed the victim several times and then pushed the victim (driver) from a vehicle moving at freeway speeds," the probable cause statement said.Cuevas-Landa also told investigators he had been using marijuana and LSD.A State Bureau of Investigation agent responded to the area where witnesses reported seeing the body and found the woman dead.Police didn't identify the victim, but said she suffered extensive injuries , including two wounds consistent with stabbing injuries.Cuevas-Landa faces a first-degree felony charge of murder and a second-degree felony charge of aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury.This story originally reported by David Wells on fox13now.com. 2006

(KGTV) — Encinitas officials announced a "one-of-a-kind" crosswalk has been placed across Coast Highway 101 in downtown.Officials say the artistic crosswalk featuring surfboard shapes and waves spans across the highway at G Street and took two years of coordination between city staff and City Council to put together. The city says the crosswalk will improve walkability and bring more public art to the area.Artist Steffen Vala, whose work has appeared around the globe and been featured by Apple, Marvel, and other big brands, was commissioned for the crosswalk."The iconography of surfboard shapes is a nod to each surfer's 'magic board,' unique to them like their fingerprint. Juxtaposing this individualism is a unifying tidal wave laid out like the ocean's fingerprint that connects all the surfboards. This symbolizes the unifying, collective, 'party wave' we are all riding and our love in protecting the environment while celebrating our differences," the city said in a release.The city says the crosswalk is the longest decorative crosswalk of its kind and first one across a historic highway. 1132
