BOSTON (AP) — The Boston Red Sox has rehired Alex Cora as manager.The team decided about a week after Cora finished the one-year suspension handed down by Commissioner Rob Manfred for sign-stealing while he was the bench coach in Houston in 2017.The move returns him to the Boston dugout less than a year after the ballclub let him go because of his role in the Houston Astros cheating scandal.Major League Baseball said the Astros decoded pitch signs by using their video replay system. To alert the batter, members of the Astros would relay the information with a noise, which included banging a trash can.The Red Sox dismissed Cora in January.In April, after an investigation into the Red Sox, MLB stripped the Red Sox of their second-round pick in this year's amateur draft for breaking video rules in 2018. The league suspended then-former manager Cora through the 2020 postseason, the Associated Press reported.Per the AP, MLB also suspended the Red Sox's replay system operator J.T. BENTONVILLE, Ark. – Walmart announced Tuesday that it’s giving out another round of cash bonuses to its workers and that it will be closed on Thanksgiving this year.BonusesThe retail giant says full-time hourly associates will receive 0, while its part-time and temporary associates will be paid 0.Associates at the company’s stores, clubs, distribution centers and fulfillment centers will qualify, as will drivers, managers, and assistant managers. Those employed by the company as of July 31 will qualify, and it will pay out on Aug. 20.The bonuses will add up to about 8 million, according to Walmart.“Our associates have been working at an incredible pace, they’ve solved problems, and they’ve set an amazing example for others,” said John Furner, President and CEO of Walmart U.S. “To further appreciate their incredible work, we are pleased to share another special cash bonus this summer.”This is the third special bonus Walmart has given to associates in 2020, totaling .1 billion in bonuses so far this year.ThanksgivingUnlike in years past, Walmart says it will be closed on Thanksgiving this year, as will Sam’s Club.“We know this has been a trying year, and our associates have stepped up. I thought ‘oh well my workday starts as soon as I wake up,’ which was nice at the time,” said Joshua Chickasawa.Chikasawa is an accountant who went from an hour long, 10-mile, bike ride to work each day, to work at his fingertips within minutes. However, after a few weeks that got old.“Even though I don’t have to bike to an actual destination or anything like that, I have been going on a bike ride for an hour or so,” said Chikasawa. “Sometimes, I’ll bike by the office I am supposed to be at.”He’s now getting up again at 5 a.m. and does, his “fake commute.”“It is just forcing myself to get out of bed, so I am actually going outside and having a real start to my day like I used to,” he added, “instead of just rolling to my laptop and starting the work day without having any real distance between my personal life and work.”You might be surprised how normal these fake commutes are becoming.“I have actually heard this from some of my friends and colleagues,” said Jon Jachimowicz.Jachimowicz is a professor at Harvard University.“There is this tension that we are experiencing right now where we are actually beginning to understand that even though we hate the commute in yester-year time when we actually went to the office, there was also something valuable about it,” said Jachimowicz.The professor recently published research showing one of the biggest benefits was the time the commute gave us to transition between personal life and work. Also, that the transition period in this new normal can effectively be replicated with a fake commute or new before and after work ritual.“I don’t think it actually matters what exactly it is,” said Jachimowicz. “It can be something as easy as putting on work clothes, which is what I do.”Companies are even starting to see the need for this. Microsoft recently announced it’s adding a virtual commute feature to its Teams platform to help workers transition in and out of work mode.
