SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A San Diego tradition will return this holiday season, though not to the same stage we're used to seeing.The Old Globe's production of "Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" won't be taking the theater's stage this year, instead, coming to audiences on the radio and online. The free, audio-only production can be heard on 89.5 FM and can also be streamed on the KPBS website or mobile app, and on smart speakers on Nov. 26, Dec. 5, and Dec. 20 at 12 p.m.; and Dec. 24 at 6 p.m.Of course, fans of the show can expect their favorite songs, including "Santa for a Day," "You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch," and "Welcome, Christmas (Fah Who Doraze)."And though live showings at the Old Globe are canceled until further notice due to the pandemic, another piece of holiday cheer will return outside of the theater. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An El Centro teacher was arraigned Tuesday after she was accused of providing marijuana and alcohol to students on a school camping trip.Monique Garcia, 50, faces two felony charges and three misdemeanor charges garnering a maximum sentence of 8 years and 4 months in state prison, according to the District Attorney's Office.Deputy District Attorney Stephen Marquardt said a 17-year-old student on the trip gave Garcia a ride to a grocery store where she bought alcohol and then drove to a dispensary where she bought cannabis, including edibles.Marquardt said students were intoxicated and became sick after consuming the alcohol and/or cannabis.According to the Southwest High School website, Garcia was head of the math department. The Central Union High School District sent a statement to 10News reading in full: "In order to protect the integrity of the judicial process, Central Union High School District does not comment on ongoing or pending proceedings. Monique Garcia is no longer employed by the District. Due to the sensitive nature of the allegations the District will continue to respect the privacy of all those involved."Southwest High School's Outdoor Adventure Club went on a three-day camping trip in February of 2019, according to the Imperial Valley Press.IVP named Garcia as the head adviser of the club and stated she was on that trip with 29 students.The trip took place, according to IVP, at the Laguna Campground from Feb. 15-18.This is the first criminal case resulting from the newly formed Student Safety in School Systems Task Force, under the San Diego County District Attorney.Garcia will be in court for a preliminary hearing June 18.A restraining order was filed, to keep Garcia from contacting 18 individuals, whom Marquardt said she texted before and after the trip.A LinkedIn profile with the same name lists Garcia as a teacher at Southwest High School from August 2008 - present and at Gompers Charter Middle School from August of 2006 - June of 2007.The San Diego Unified School District confirmed Garcia worked at Crawford High School from Sept. 28, 2007 to June 30, 2008. 2143

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Sorrento Valley startup company has a plan to bring Coronavirus testing to your door.Mobile Xpress Clinics is offering on-site testing for businesses and their employees."I don't want my employees going to an emergency room," says founder Rolf Muller. "They have to go to an area that's safe, which can be controlled and there are not a lot of unhealthy people. And that is the key."Muller and his wife, Judy Muller-Cohn, created the mobile testing lab while looking for a way to get their own employees tested. They run a cancer diagnostic company and wanted to make sure their workers had easy access to tests.The clinic is a van, fully equipped with testing supplies, PPE, and everything needed to transport the tests back to a lab for analysis.Muller says they can set up within 15 minutes in a parking lot, and it only takes about 3 minutes per person to complete the test.Results come back within 24 hours."We can bring it to schools. We can bring it to church congregations. We can bring it to supermarkets. We can bring it to every single company where people work together," he says."If we control communities, the people who interact with each other all day long, then we can control the virus outbreak."Muller says companies should test their employees every two weeks. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A young woman was hit by an egg while walking to her car in Carmel Valley and could lose sight in her left eye permanently due to the prank, according to what her doctor told her.Meghan Campbell, 25, was visiting friends on Sunday the 19th, at their home near Torrey Pines High School. Around 9:45 p.m. she was walking ahead of her friends to her car when a dark SUV drove by and someone inside hurled an egg at her."It was freaking terrifying," she said Wednesday, still shaken by the incident. "Soon as it hit me I kneeled down to figure out what was going on." Her thoughts were racing, "I can't see, there's something gooey on my face right now."It can sound like a funny prank, and Campbell chooses to find the humor in it now, but what doctors told her at the hospital was life-altering.She said doctors told her that her left cornea was scratched and orbital bones were fractured."I think the most scary thing for me was my vision went out... and I couldn't start seeing light or anything until the next day," Campbell said.She saw an Ophthalmologist Tuesday and she said he told her it will take six weeks to find out if her vision will come back. He said there are no options for surgery or medication because of the level of trauma to her eye. Her left pupil has remained dilated more than a week after the incident.She said she's still having trouble with light sensitivity, depth perception, and overall vision. "Someone with 20/20 vision can stand 200 feet away from something and see it clear, I have to stand 20 feet away to see the same thing," she said.She was visiting her friends from Orange County when the incident happened. Wednesday she was at the airport waiting for a flight back to Kentucky where she's studying to become an ER doctor. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- After questions from Team 10, organizers of KAABOO San Diego announced it was postponing this year's festival until 2021. Concertgoers told Team 10 they had difficulty reaching anyone for answers. “We all know this isn’t happening, there’s no festival taking place. Please just give us a refund,” said San Diego resident Vince Matthews.Matthews loves music and travels to festivals all across the country. He has been to KAABOO in Del Mar every year since it started in 2015. He spent more than 0 for early bird VIP tickets for this year’s KAABOO festival. “Last year was the first festival ever that I’ve done VIP and once I did it, I realized there was no going back to general admission!”With the pandemic and COVID cases rising, Matthews wanted to know what was going to happen with KAABOO. As more large events got canceled, he was convinced it was likely not going to take place. Still, he had yet to receive any concrete information from festival organizers.“I reached out to them usually every couple weeks by email,” Matthews said. “I get the same form email that says please be patient."Patience was running out. As of Monday early afternoon, the last update posted on KAABOO’s social media accounts was June 15th. It said, in part, that they “will need just a little more time to determine our position as it relates to this year’s installment of KAABOO.” It told fans they would be hearing from KAABOO shortly.Matthews is frustrated by the lack of communication as we now head into the month of August.“There's nobody touring, there is no festival, there is no lineup. It's not going to happen,” Matthews said.KAABOO is under new ownership. It was announced last year that Virgin Fest was taking over the brand. In addition to the new ownership, the festival was moving from the Del Mar Fairgrounds to Petco Park.As of Monday morning, it still listed the September festival dates on its website.Team 10 contacted Virgin Fest founder Jason Felts. On Twitter, he told investigator Melissa Mecija that emails went to “ticket buyers last week about a possible scaled down social distanced version for 2020.”However, he determined with cases increasing that it wasn’t “a safe decision in the end and not the multi-sensory experience that KAABOO guests experience or deserve.”Team 10 spoke to four people who bought tickets. Nobody received the email that the festival claimed to send to ticketholders.KAABOO organizers released this statement to ABC 10News: With everything in the world moving so far and fast in just the last couple of weeks, we needed a little bit of extra time to be sure we were making the right go-forward decision for our beloved festival. We are postponing the 2020 installment of KAABOO San Diego.After much consultation with stakeholders in local government, artists and music industry friends, and members of the San Diego community, we know it is safest and best for everyone to look ahead and plan a bigger and bolder edition of KAABOO for September of 2021.All current pass holders will receive an email in the next few days outlining a special offering for those who choose to hold their passes for KAABOO 2021.
