EL CAJON (CNS) - A man suspected of killing his husband at their Mount Helix home pleaded not guilty Friday to a murder charge.Daniel Scott Jordan, 45, is accused in the slaying of 38-year-old Kevin Powell, a Chula Vista city employee whose body was found in the couple's Carmen Drive residence on Aug. 11.Chula Vista police found Powell's body while conducting a welfare check, sheriff's Lt. Thomas Seiver said. Ed King, who co-wrote the Lynyrd Skynyrd hit "Sweet Home Alabama," the tune with the classic riff that became a Southern rock anthem, has died.The retired guitarist died Wednesday at his home in Nashville, according to his Facebook page. The post did not include a cause of death or King's age.King was a member of the Florida band in its early days. He left before a 1977 plane crash in Mississippi that killed three members of the group and later rejoined for a reunion tour, according to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.King was one of three writers of "Sweet Home Alabama," which was released on the album "Second Helping" in April 1974, according to Rolling Stone. The rollicking track begins with King counting "1-2-3" before the guitar lick that generations have come to know as a tribute to the state of Alabama."When we were out in the country driving all the time, we would listen to the radio. A bevy of equipment was stolen, including a riding mower, a pitching machine, two custom hitting mats, two sets of catcher's gear, three catcher's mitts and hundreds of baseballs."To steal from the kids just doesn't make sense," said Weichelt.The total loss was about ,000."What a troubling year for this to happen," said Weichelt.So far this year, COVID-19 health orders have canceled the team's main fundraiser, along with limiting all activities to practices and no games. EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- Two firefighters were injured fighting a blaze that sparked near El Cajon Wednesday afternoon according to Cal Fire. Cal Fire says the blaze started on the 5500 block of Dehesa Road around 4 p.m. and burned 25 acres. As of 6:40 p.m. Wednesday, the fire is 50 percent contained. An incident report shows that two firefighters were injured, though the extent of their injuries was unclear. The blaze did for a brief time threaten structures, but none were damaged. Due to the blaze, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department evacuated Vista De La Montana east of Dehesa Road. Evacuation warnings were also issued for Trafalgar Road, Calle De Nicole, and Vista De La Montana.
