BEIJING, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Li Yuanchao, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met with a delegation of Costa Rica's National Liberation Party (NLP) led by President Bernal Jimenez in Beijing Tuesday. BEIJING, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- China has decided to postpone a negotiation with Japan on the East China Sea issue as part of its response to the seizure of a Chinese fishing boat, said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu Friday night.The postponed talks, the second governmental negotiations on the principle common understandings on the East China Sea issue, had been scheduled for mid September, according to Jiang.A Japanese court on Friday, despite Chinese protests, ruled a 10-day detention through Sept.19 against the captain of a Chinese trawler which collided with Japanese patrol ships off the Diaoyu Islands in the East China Sea on Tuesday.The Chinese trawler under detention stops at the harbor of Ishigaki, Okinawa, Japan, Sept. 9, 2010. Japan Coast Guard sent the captain of the Chinese trawler which collided with Japanese patrol ships in waters off Diaoyu Islands to prosecutors in Okinawa Prefecture Thursday morning."The Japanese side has ignored China's repeated solemn representations and firm opposition, and obstinately decided to put the Chinese captain under the so-called judiciary procedures. China expresses strong discontent and grave protest," Jiang said."The Diaoyu islands and its adjacent islets have been Chinese territory since ancient times. Japan's acts have violated the law of nations and basic international common sense, and are ridiculous, illegal and invalid," Jiang said."Japan will reap as it has sown, if it continues to act recklessly," Jiang warned.Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi on Friday summoned Japanese Ambassador to China Uichiro Niwa, saying China's determination to defend its sovereignty over the Diaoyu Islands and the interests of the Chinese people was unswerving.Yang said China demanded Japan immediately and unconditionally release the boat and all the crew, including the captain.On Tuesday, two Japan Coast Guard patrol ships and the Chinese fishing boat collided in waters off the Diaoyu Islands.No injuries were reported, but the fishing boat was then intercepted by the Japanese patrol.

BEIJING, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- China and Japan have no secret agreement concerning the Diaoyu Islands issue, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu said here Thursday.Ma's remarks came after media reports said Japanese government sources had revealed that China and Japan secretly reached a compromise on the Diaoyu Islands issue while Junichiro Koizumi was Japanese prime minister.The Japanese government sources said Japan agreed in the deal not to detain Chinese citizens setting foot on the Islands while China promised to restrain Chinese vessels who voluntarily defend the Diaoyu from approaching the isles, according to reports."There is absolutely no secret agreement. It is nothing but a slanderous rumor which not only misleads the public but further jeopardizes the political mutual trust between China and Japan. The Japanese side must take upon itself the consequences for this (rumor)," said Ma when responding to a journalist's question.Ma said the Diaoyu Islands are, and have been since ancient times, an integral part of Chinese territory.The Chinese government's stance in safeguarding the nation's sovereignty and territorial integrity has always been unambiguous and unwavering, he added.

BEIJING, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Sunday arrived in northeast China's port city of Dalian, the first stop of his three-day China visit.This is Medvedev's second state visit to the country since he assumed presidency in May 2008.On Sunday, Medvedev will visit a memorial to the Soviet Union war dead and meet with veteran Chinese and Russian soldiers who participated in China's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1937-1945).During his stay in the city, the Russian president will stop by the Dalian Institute of Foreign Languages, where he will have brief discussions with Russian language professors and students. He is also slated for a meeting with leaders of northeast China's Liaoning Province.More important meetings are scheduled for Monday when the Russian leader visits Beijing. He will hold talks with Chinese President Hu Jintao and call on other Chinese leaders, including top legislator Wu Bangguo and Premier Wen Jiabao.On Monday evening, Medvedev will travel to east China's metropolis of Shanghai, where, on the next day, he will meet with Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping and attend events marking the Russia Day at the ongoing World Expo, which runs from May 1 to Oct. 31.

BEIJING, Sep. 2 (Xinhua) -- China's Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang Thursday called upon Chinese industrial firms to improve the quality of their products as part of the efforts to transform China's economic growth pattern.Chinese enterprises should boost the quality of industrial products by upgrading their technologies and establishing a quality-based credit system of enterprises, said Zhang at a forum held in Beijing which focused on how to improve the quality and reputation of Chinese industrial products.He also called for accelerating the establishment of industrial standardization system, actively taking part in drafting and revising of related international standards and establishing a reward and punishment system that favors firms that manufacture high-quality products.Zhang also urged China's domestic firms to step up efforts to nurture indigenous brands to make "made in China" a byword for high-quality products.
