But for most of the Chinese employees, the top priority is to find a job, while wage level is the second major concern.Therefore, the rise in wage should be kept at a reasonable level, so as to maintain the competitiveness of our industries, Wen said."Besides, we should understand that the rise in wage should be in line with the advance of labor productivity," he said.

TIANJIN, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- The capacity of China's plantation industry might decline as a result of global warming, according to a report released during a new round of UN climate talks being held in north China's Tianjin Municipality from Oct. 4 to 9.If no proper measures were taken, the capacity of China's plantation industry might decline by 5 to 10 percent by 2030, characterized by a reduction in the output of wheat, rice and corn, said the report, released by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and several other organizations during the conference."The situation may get worse after 2050," the report warned.It said the soaring content of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere would have a "significant" impact on the output of wheat, rice and corn.Also, higher temperatures might put more farmland in China at risk from of insect damage and forest fires, the report explained.Further, some farmland might be inundated if the sea level rises as a result of global warming, it said.China has only about 7 percent of the world's arable land, while feeding more than 1.3 billion people which accounts for about 20 percent of the world' s population.

GUIYANG, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- China Wednesday called for the European Union to have a balanced, objective, comprehensive understanding of the world's largest developing country during an upgraded strategic dialogue held in the underdeveloped province of Guizhou.State Councilor Dai Bingguo told the EU side that despite rapid economic growth, China has no possibility to be arrogant, nor is it pretending to be a richer or poorer country than it actually is, with unfathomable strategic intentions, according to Vice Foreign Minister Fu Ying."China expects the EU to treat itself as an equal," Dai was quoted by Fu as telling EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton.The meeting was the fifth strategic dialogue between the two sides and the first since it was upgraded from vice foreign-minister level to its current level.China had made remarkable achievements since its reform and opening up to the outside, but it is still a developing country, Dai said.China has a clear understanding of its position in the international arena and its current level of development, Dai said, adding it will focus on economic development in the long run.China has not been, nor is, nor will be in the pursuit of hegemony, but adheres to the path of peaceful development, Dai said.China needs a peaceful international environment for development and its development will promote global peace and development, he said.Ashton echoed Dai, saying that the European Union should have a comprehensive understanding of China.The EU's view of China's development was one topic of the one-day closed-door meeting."It is one major aim of this strategic dialogue to enhance mutual understanding between China and the European Union. GUANGZHOU, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Authorities in south China's Guangzhou, host city of the 2010 Asian Games, Saturday said it will cancel a newly-launched free public transportation service due to the enormous public response, which might pose a security threat to the Asian Games.The government earlier this month launched the color-coding scheme for vehicles, effectively grounding half of the city's 2.1 million private cars and those entering the city each day during the Asian Games.As a remedy, free public transport service was to be offered for 30 working days beginning November 1.The offer was met with unprecedented enthusiasm from Guangzhou residents. For days, subway trains were often crammed and stations were full as swarms of people lined up to take a free ride.Now, officials with Guangzhou's transportation authorities said they had to rescind the offer as more than 8 million passengers took the subway on an average day beginning November 1, a figure "much, much higher" than the subway system was designed to carry.Further, traffic controls were put into force 144 times during the week, which "seriously affects the normal security checks required for the Games" and causes "great inconvenience," officials said.Guangzhou authorities plan to roll back the free-day scheme on Nov. 8 and replace it with a cash subsidy program in which each household in Guangzhou will receive 150 yuan as a transportation subsidy from the government.The Asian Games are scheduled to begin on November 12, featuring 11,700 athletes competing in 42 sports.
