SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) — Cameras caught a thief wreaking havoc at an East County business park, culminating in several destructive acts after he realized he was locked in.Scott Trafton has seen the video countless times, but his emotions have yet to lessen."Aggravating and makes me angry," said Trafton, who owns XP Builders.Just before midnight last Thursday night, a truck is seen driving into a business park on Wheatlands Court. The truck, believed to be a Chevy Silverado, is parked in the dark for more than four hours, before a man emerges and heads toward Trafton's general contractor business. In the video, the man grabs items from the truck bed, before prying open a toolbox in the back. A knife at this side, the man would get away with more than a thousand dollars with of Trafton's tools. "It hurts being a small business. Every penny counts," said Trafton.Trafton is not the only victim. The thief left behind a trail of shattered truck windows and missing items."Basically took whatever wasn't bolted down," said Trafton. When the man went to leave, he was met by a gate, locked by someone who had left earlier. The camera spies him apparently chaining his truck to the fence and pulling forward, but he can't get the fence down."He then came over to another truck and broke a window. He then took a moving blanket to protect his truck and drove to another fence," said Trafton. In the video, you can see the flash of his lights, before his final act."He ran into the fence, spread it wide open and knocked it over," said Trafton. The repair bill will tally some ,000. Trafton worries about what the thief may do next."He doesn't care about the aftermath, as long as he gets what he wants," said Trafton.Anyone with information is asked to call the Santee sheriff's substation at 619-956-4000. 1818

SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) - New upgrades at the Health Occupations Center are allowing students in the medical fields to continue their hands-on training during the Coronavirus Pandemic."These students can't go do clinicals in a hospital like they used to be able to," says Barry Jantz, the CEO of the Grossmont Healthcare District. "So it's even more important that we've got these kinds of abilities and facilities for students to train."Thanks to a bond passed by the voters, and a 0,000 grant from the Grossmont Healthcare District, the HOC recently finished construction on two state-of-the-art classroom and lab buildings. They also bought new, life-like mannequins and an ambulance simulator."It's very realistic," says Nursing Student Nyna Huynh. "Everything we do, from the pulses to listening to the breathing sounds, it's very realistic to what we'd come encounter in a clinical, a real situation.""It's an environment to make mistakes without harming the patient," says fellow student Deanne Murray. "We get to see a lot of things and see how situations can pan out. So it's a safe environment."The HOC also made several changes to make sure their students learn in a safe environment. All theory classes have moved online, and in-person labs are restricted to just a few students at a time. The new buildings also have touchless sinks and hand sanitizer stations.Like all schools in San Diego County, the HOC shut down in March at the start of the Pandemic. But, since the need for healthcare workers rose as the virus spread, they worked with County Health Officials to get special permission to resume classes. 288 students went back to class in June to finish the spring semester. This fall, a record of 455 students enrolled."There's fulfillment for them," says HOC Director Heather Peterson. "They're able to not only help immediately in this pandemic situation, but they really are part of a field where the labor market needs are immense."A majority of the new students were left unemployed by the Coronavirus. This new technology and in-person learning can help them find a new job in just one semester.Training new healthcare employees is vital, and not just because of the Pandemic. The US Department of Labor says demand for healthcare workers will increase by 23% between 2016 and 2026."People have lost jobs, and maybe this is a tremendous opportunity and time for them to go get some training they always thought about. That's important," says Jantz. For more information about the programs available at the Health Occupations Center, click here. 2579

SCOTTSDALE, Arizona — From pre-made salads and sandwiches to ready-to-make meal kits and online ordering, the grocery store has become a conveyor belt of innovation the last few years. It’s time to throw another piece into the basket — driverless delivery. Kroger, the Cincinnati, Ohio-based grocery chain that operates Fry’s Food Stores, announced Thursday, Aug. 16, that it will begin testing its driverless delivery program in Scottsdale, Arizona. In June, the company said it was exploring the program and had partnered with Nuro, a company founded in 2016 that makes unmanned vehicles, but had not named where they would be tested. Now we know where.Starting Thursday, the program will only be available to those living in the 85257 zip code and within two miles of the Fry’s grocery store at 7770 E. McDowell Road in Scottsdale (near Scottsdale and North Hayden Roads). Here are a few things you need to know:WHAT IS IT?Forget going to the grocery store and walking the aisles to grab the milk, eggs and cheese. Under the test program, customers will be able to order their groceries via the Fry's Food Store app and website and have them delivered to their home by one of Nuro’s ten unmanned Toyota Prius vehicles. Each vehicle will deliver the groceries to a home’s curbside and can deliver up to 15 bags of groceries, said Pam Giannonatti, corporate affairs manager with Kroger.HOW SAFE IS IT?“Safety is Nuro’s top priority. They are relentlessly focused on ensuring their vehicles are not just good neighbors, but among the safest on the road,” Kroger said in a statement. “Their vehicles and the autonomy systems undergo extensive testing including a wide range of critical safety scenarios that require immediate response to prevent harm.”During the test, Kroger said each vehicle would have a safety test driver with it.HOW DOES IT WORK?Starting Thursday, Aug. 16, those living within the 85257 zip code can order groceries from the Fry’s Food app or website, https://www.frysfood.com.They can be delivered by one of Nuro’s vehicles that same day or the next day depending on availability. The delivery fee is .95 per order. There is no minimum order amount.“Arizona is home to some of the most innovative autonomous vehicle testing,” said Dave Ferguson, Nuro’s co-founder, in a prepared statement. “We’re proud to contribute and turn our vision for local commerce into a real, accessible service that residents of Scottsdale can use immediately. “We welcome innovative technology that can benefit the lives of Scottsdale residents. We feel this partnership holds tremendous potential and promise, and offers our residents real, not-yet-experienced convenience for everyday routines," Scottsdale Mayor Jim Lane said in a statement. Some of Arizona's top leaders, including Gov. Doug Ducey, have been supportive of autonomous technology.Uber began testing its self-driving technology in Arizona in February 2017, but shut down its operations earlier this year after one of its vehicles was involved in a deadly crash with a pedestrian.Waymo, a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc., the parent company of Google, is also testing self-driving vehicles in Arizona.Kroger did not say how long the pilot test would last nor if — or when — more locations would be added. 3291
