(KGTV) — Poway officials unanimously approved the use of outdoor space for fitness classes and religious services, after the state banned indoor activities at gyms and placed of worship this week.Wednesday, Poway City Council leaders voted to allow Poway park space to be reserved for fitness- or religious-related activities as part of the city's Sharing Outdoor Spaces, or "SOS," initiative. "Last week we offered restaurants a lifeline through the simple act of loaning picnic tables and the outpouring of support in Poway was overwhelming. Given the current mandates, we need to look for creative and safe ways to help keep more ‘doors’ open in Poway. The county's COVID-19 guidelines must also be adhered to, including mandates on face coverings and physical distancing.Councilman Barry Leonard said the initiative is "a common-sense approach" in response to the rollback of openings for these businesses."This is beneficial to our community," Leonard added. "We're not forcing people to do anything. The CDC says the safest way to thaw a turkey is to either keep it in the refrigerator or in a leak-proof plastic bag in a sink of cold water that is changed every 30 minutes. If you simply thaw your turkey by leaving it on the counter at room temperature, you run the risk of its temperature being unsafe, leading to the risk of bacteria growth.The next tip is to follow the four steps of food safety: clean, separate, cook, and chill. The raw turkey can contaminate anything it touches. Be sure to wash your hands and surfaces often, do not cross contaminate with other foods, cook at the specified temperature, and refrigerate within two hours.If you plan on putting stuffing inside your turkey, the CDC says to use a food thermometer. Put the stuffing in the turkey just before cooking. The thermometer should read 165°F at the stuffing's center. This will ensure that there are no surviving bacteria. Prenatal exposure to ambient air pollution was associated with an increased risk of autism spectrum disorder, a new study finds. Pregnant women in Vancouver who were exposed to the highest level of environmental nitric oxide, an airborne, traffic-related pollutant, were more likely to give birth to children later diagnosed with autism, the researchers say.Autism spectrum disorder, a developmental disability, is characterized by problems with communication and social interaction with accompanying repetitive behavior patterns.Lief Pagalan, lead author of the study and a member of the faculty of health sciences at Simon Fraser University, cautions that the study, published Monday in the medical journal JAMA Pediatrics, showed only an association between prenatal exposure to nitric oxide and autism rates.
